摘要:
An apparatus in which a developer unit of an electrophotographic printing machine has a plurality of wires which trap contaminants before reaching electrode wires positioned between a donor roller and a photoconductive surface. In addition, a circuit determines when defects and deletions are caused by contaminants spacing the electrode wires from the donor roller.

A carrier bead pickoff device for removal of carrier beads adhering to a charge retentive surface in an electrophotographic device having at least one developer housing movable into and out of developing position includes a magnet supported on the movable developer housing of the type which is movable into and out of developing position with respect to the photoreceptor. When the developer housing is moved into developing position, the magnet is correspondingly brought into a position closely adjacent to a non-magnetic carrier bead catch supported closely adjacent to the charge retentive surface. Beads are collected at the bead catch and released upon removal of the magnet from proximity to the bead catch. The non-magnetic bead catch may be supported for movement into a bead catching position when the developer housing is brought into developing position, and to a bead releasing position when the developer is removed from developing position and the magnet is removed from its position adjacent the bead catch. When the bead catch is in bead catching position, the magnet is supported so that removed beads are collected at the bead catch by the magnetic force. When the magnet is removed from that position, there is no longer a magnetic force attracting beads to the bead catch, and the movement of the bead catch to a bead release position allows collected beads to fall to a storage location.

An apparatus in which an image region recorded on a photoconductive surface is developed with a developer material comprising at least carrier granules and toner particles. The developer material has the resistivity thereof varying continuously as a function of the electrical field applied thereto. A transport moves the developer material closely adjacent to the photoconductive surface. An alternating electrical field is generated between the transport and the photoconductive surface. The alternating electrical field has an amplitude sufficient to change the resistivity of the developer material to a more conductive state.

An inkjet printhead is configured to reduce the likelihood of media coming into contact with a printhead face. The inkjet printhead includes a housing, an aperture plate having a plurality of apertures in an aperture area through which inkjet ejectors eject ink, and a pair of members aligned with a direction of media movement and extending along a length of the aperture area, the pair of members being configured to lift media away from the plurality of apertures in the aperture area.

A printing device can be configured with different numbers of ink colors and ink types to print with a different cross-process direction print resolution for each ink color and ink type. The printing device includes a plurality of printhead arrays with each printhead array being configured to eject ink onto an image receiving surface at a first print resolution in a cross-process direction. Each ink supply in a plurality of ink supplies is configured to provide ink to one printhead array in the plurality of printhead arrays, and a controller is configured to operate the printhead arrays at one of at least two combinations of ink colors and ink types. The controller operates the printhead arrays ejecting a same ink color or a same ink type at a second print resolution in the cross-process direction that is different than the first print resolution.

A method compensates for changes in drop velocity of drops emitted by inkjets in a printhead of an ink jet imaging device. The method includes operating inkjet ejectors in a plurality of printheads to eject ink in a pattern of structured dashes on an image receiving member, the structured dashes corresponding to a predetermined image data pattern, generating image data corresponding to the pattern of structured dashes on the image receiving member, identifying a process direction correction parameter for each ejector in the plurality of printheads with reference to the generated image data, modifying image data to be printed by the plurality of printheads with reference to the process direction correction parameter identified for at least one of the ejectors, and operating the plurality of printheads with reference to the modified image data.

A modular printing device has been developed that may be configured with different numbers of ink colors and ink types and with a different cross-process direction print resolution for each ink color and ink type. The modular printing device configurable to print with multiple combinations of ink colors and ink types at different print resolutions includes a plurality of printhead arrays, each printhead array being configured to eject ink onto an image receiving surface at a first print resolution in a cross-process direction, a plurality of ink supplies, each ink supply being configured to store ink and to provide ink to one printhead array in the plurality of printhead arrays, and a controller configured to operate the plurality of printhead arrays at one of at least two combinations of ink colors and ink types, each combination identifying an ink color or an ink type to be ejected by each printhead array and the controller operating the printhead arrays ejecting a same ink color or a same ink type at a print resolution in the cross-process direction corresponding to the number of printhead arrays ejecting the same ink color or the same ink type.

A method for detecting a defect in an inkjet print head within an inkjet marking device includes marking images on a rotating intermediate substrate according to an image sequence, marking a test image on at least one blank portion of the intermediate substrate, the blank portion resulting from the image sequence, evaluating the test image with a sensor, and determining whether the inkjet print head is defective based on the evaluation.
