An improved quick attach system for removably attaching an implement, such as a bucket, to a front end loader includes a quick attach assembly connected to the lift arms and tilt operators of the front end loader. A pair of alignment members mate with alignment recesses on the bucket while a pair of spring-urged locking pins mate with a pair of brackets on the bucket. A common scissors-type pin retraction assembly is connected to the locking pins with a single release handle provided to move the pins between locked and release positions. The handle moves within a slot between as the pins move between the locked and release positions and a detent is provided for holding the handle, and the locking pins, in the release position. The handle is automatically urged from the detent position by a locking member on the loader as the bucket is attached to the loader, thus allowing the pins to lock into place in the bucket brackets.

An improved quick coupler for attaching a tool to an excavator includes a body of a pair of spaced parallel plates providing structure for fixed attachment of the coupler to an end of the excavator. The plates define a first slot with an opening facing in a first direction to engage upon a first tool and a second slot with an opening facing in a second direction to engage a parallel second tool pin upon the tool. The body has a third plate between the spaced parallel plates. The coupler has a latch for securing the second pin in the second slot, the latch including a coupler gate rotatably mounted on an axis transverse to the second pin axis to pivot about the axis between a first position with the pin secured in the second slot by the gate and a second position with the gate clear of the second slot. A latch lever rotatably mounted on the coupler gate has a handle for moving the lever and a tab for engaging a third slot in the third plate. The latch lever pivots between a first position with the tab engaged in the third slot to resist rotation of the gate and a second position with the tab clear of the slot to allow rotation of the gate.

A semi-automatic coupling apparatus is installed at the terminus of a backhoe dipper stick, crane boom or similar device and facilitates connection and disconnection of various earth working and material handling attachments. The coupler includes first, forward facing throats which engage a forward crossbar on an attachment such as a bucket and second, downward facing throats which engage a rear crossbar. A latching mechanism includes a pawl actuated by advance of the rear crossbar into the rear throats. The pawl releases a spring biased wedge member which retains the rear crossbar in the rear throat. A reset linkage may be manually activated to retract the wedge and permit release of the bucket from the coupler. An alternate embodiment of the coupler includes a remotely activated hydraulic or pneumatic cylinder which is coupled to the spring biased wedge member.

A quick coupling bucket mounting mechanism is disclosed for coupling a material handling bucket, blade, compactor, impact hammer or other attachment to the free end of a scoop arm extending from a loader or backhoe. A quick coupler is provided which is pivotally mounted to the loader scoop arm for readily receiving various types and sizes of attachments. The quick coupler has a three-leg configuration including a pair of bucket mounting legs adaptable for engagement with a bucket mounting pin. One end of each bucket mounting leg has a hook portion which cooperatively locks around lateral projections of the bucket mounting pin. A releasable latch mechanism is pivotally mounted on the third leg of the quick coupler for engagement with a complementary latch pin on the bucket. The latch mechanism is selectively rotatable to two positions. In a first position, it is aligned with and forms an opening which permits the quick coupler to be seated on the bucket latch pin. The latch mechanism is then rotated to a second position which closes the opening thereby providing a bearing mounting for the bucket latch pin in the latch mechanism. In the latched position of the quick coupler, a quick and reliable coupled connection is formed between the bucket and loader scoop arm.
