    摘要: Methods and apparatus for establishing secure wireless links between a handset and a base station in cordless telephone systems are described. A method of generating a secure wireless link between a handset and a base station includes initiating a linking procedure, generating a security code, displaying the security code at the base station, entering the security code into the handset and then establishing a radio frequency link between the handset and the base station utilizing the security code. A cordless telephone system capable of generating a secure wireless link includes both a handset and a base station. The handset includes a control circuit, a transmitter and a receiver coupled to the control circuit along with a keypad also coupled to the control circuit. The base station includes a control circuit, a code generation circuit coupled to the control circuit, a display coupled to the control circuit for displaying a code generated by the code generation circuit, and a transmitter and receiver coupled to the control circuit.

    摘要: The present invention provides a power adapter (10) adapted to couple an external antenna (17) to a communication device (30) by way of a cable (12) which is typically plugged into a cigarette lighter of a vehicle or some other power source at one end, and an input connector of the communication device (30) at the other. In particular, the present invention provides a simple one-piece vehicle power adapter which also provides RF input/output capability for connection to an external vehicle antenna. According to certain aspects of the invention, the adapter can be configured to have a variety of selection mechanisms. For example, the communication device could include an RF switch (34) and control circuitry for selecting either the internal or external antenna for optimum reception. Alternatively, the power adapter could include an external switch (70) for allowing the user to select the desired antenna. Finally, the power adapter could include a component which automatically actuates the switch to select the external antenna when the external antenna is connected to the communication device.

    摘要: A cordless telephone provides for increased features available at a portable unit that have heretofore been available only at a base unit which combines a cordless telephone fixed station and telephone answering device. The cordless telephone includes a call screening feature which allows a user at the portable unit to monitor incoming messages received over telephone lines as they are being recorded at the telephone answering device without the user having to configure the portable unit in any way during actual receipt of the message. A built-in loudspeaker is incorporated into the portable unit so that the user may easily listen to the incoming messages. Once receipt of the incoming message is completed, amplifier circuitry driving the loudspeaker is turned off. The cordless telephone also includes a caller-ID feature which informs the user at the portable unit of the identity of a preidentified calling party before the call is answered. This operation is achieved by the user entering into a memory table in the telephone each one of a plurality of desired telephone numbers for subsequent access and comparison when a caller-ID number is received from a calling party. The user also associates with each telephone number a voice message which is subsequently generated in the loudspeaker in the portable unit in response to a favorable comparison between the caller-ID signal and the stored telephone number.

    摘要: In a cordless telephone system, a master unit adds to a registration signal an identification (ID) code assigned to a slave unit connectable to the master unit, a master unit transmission password, and an ID code assigned to the master unit, and sends the resulting registration signal to the slave unit. On receiving the registration signal, the slave unit determines whether or not the master unit transmission password is identical with a slave unit password stored therein. If the former is identical with the latter, the slave unit writes the master unit ID code therein, adds the master unit ID code, slave unit transmission password, and slave unit ID code to an end-of-registration signal, and then sends the signal to the master unit. On receiving the end-of-registration signal, the master unit writes the slave unit ID code included in the signal if the slave unit transmission password is identical with a password stored therein.

In order to realise greater flexibility with cordless telephone sets, the invention proposes to establish a connection between the handset and the base station also by means of a second identification code stored in the base station. In this manner, any user without knowing the identification codes to be exchanged between the handset and the base station can sign on and sign off a handset at any compatible base station, provided that he knows the second identification code.
