摘要： Methods and apparatus for activating telephone services in response to speech are described. A directory including names is maintained for each customer. A speaker dependent speech template and a telephone number for each name, is maintained as part of each customer's directory. Speaker independent speech templates are used for recognizing commands. The present invention has the advantage of permitting a customer to place a call by speaking a person's name which serves as a destination identifier without having to speak an additional command or steering word to place the call. This is achieved by treating the receipt of a spoken name in the absence of a command as an implicit command to place a call. Explicit speaker independent commands are used to invoke features or services other than call placement. Speaker independent and speaker dependent speech recognition are performed on a customer's speech in parallel. An arbiter is used to decide which function or service should be performed when an apparent conflict arises as a result of both the speaker dependent and speaker independent speech recognition step outputs. Stochastic grammars, word spotting and/or out-of-vocabulary rejection are used as part of the speech recognition process to provide a user friendly interface which permits the use of spontaneous speech. Voice verification is performed on a selective basis where security is of concern.

摘要： An electronic apparatus includes a plurality of selectively actuable selection devices for causing the apparatus to perform a plurality of distinct operations. A first actuation of a selection device establishes a first condition to cause the apparatus to generate an externally detectable identification such as by voice synthesis of the selected operation, and a second actuation of the selection device establishes a second condition to cause the apparatus to perform the selected operation and identify the operation on a display. In a preferred embodiment, the selection devices are each a push button actuable from a rest position to a first depressed position to establish the first condition by actuating a first switch, and thereafter actuable from the first depressed position to a second depressed position to establish the second condition by actuating a second switch.

摘要： A telephone dialling system uses a hand-held wand to read telephone numbers represented in bar-code form. The coded numbers are converted to electrical signals, stored and then dialed out in impulse or tone signalling form. A microprocessor implementation and its routines are described. The coded representation may be a 2-out-of-5 code or preferably a hexadecimal code provided by four bars. The hexadecimal allows the provision of characters in addition to numerals 0-9 and enables instructions and other control functions to be entered into and acted upon by the microprocessor. The telephone numbers can be provided on documents such as letterheads or directories. The instruction and control facilities can be generated from labels formed on a pad and containing the hexadecimal codes.

摘要： A teleprinting apparatus which eliminates a dial switch for connection to a remote subscriber and which substitutes a circuit arrangement which utilizes the keyboard through a coding system to generate pulse trains for connection to the remote subscriber. A selection pulse generator is set in operation by a "proceed to select" signal which is supplied with signals emitted by a keyboard and derived from a counter pulse train of constant repetition frequency. In this way selection pulses are produced, the number of which is determined by the key which is being operated. The number is actually fixed by the use of a comparator which compares the keyboard signal with the output of a counter which is counting the pulse train.

摘要： An adaptor unit for a voice operated typewriter employing morse code to provide a voice operated hands free telephone dialling facility. The unit consists of a four-bit counter interconnected with a multi-vibrator so that the counter is incremented by each pulse generated by the multi-vibrator and so that the multivibrator is held off when the count is zero. When a number is written into the counter from the voice operated typewriter employing morse code, the multi-vibrator is enabled to generate the requisite number of pulses needed to restore the count to zero.

摘要： An electronic telephone instrument circuit capable of dialing (address signaling) in either pulse or tone mode. The circuitry permits the placement of a call through a rotary dial only system into a second network that is of a tone only nature. The included circuitry has very high return loss and relatively high level of tone capability and is designed to function with a variety of types of dialer integrated circuits. The present circuitry provides part of its DC current supervision while in the voice mode through the included tone amplifiers circuit thereby minimizing components and reducing current load through the voice network.
