Abstract:
An airbag cushion assembly including an airbag cushion, a cushion strap and a horn switch pocket for use with a driver side airbag module. The horn switch pocket is for mounting a horn switch assembly and is secured to a tether of the cushion strap. The cushion strap retains the airbag cushion in a deflated, folded position prior to mounting the airbag cushion assembly within an airbag module and prior to inflation of the airbag cushion. The horn switch pocket is positioned on the tether so as to be tightly located between the tether and a horn activation face of an airbag module cover of the airbag module. The horn switch pocket can be made from the same material as the tether and the airbag cushion, and the horn switch pocket is sewn to the tether. According to one variation of the present invention, an airbag cushion assembly is provided having an airbag cushion and a horn pocket sewn directly to the airbag cushion.
Abstract:
A method for manufacturing a steering wheel central pad having a skeleton (1) provided with an open dish (2), for receiving an inflatable bag in a folded state, and with a soft covering (5). At least the inflatable bag (3) in the folded state is placed in the dish. The opening of the dish (2) is closed off using a sealing material (4) which can tear when the bag inflates. The skeleton, together with its dish (2) provided with the bag (3) and with the sealing material (4), is placed in a mold for manufacturing the soft covering by injection of plastic. Then, plastic is injected into the mold in order to form the soft covering (5).
Abstract:
Featured for use in the reaction canister of an inflatable restraint system is a continuous circumference diffuser tube. The diffuser tube may be a one-piece, two-piece or clamshell type all of which functionally are the same although the clamshell type is more versatile. The diffuser tube provides for the attachment of brackets for installation of the reaction canister in the instrument panel of a vehicle, provides a secure reliable attachment for the inflatable bag or protective cushion, and a secure installation of the inflator. The diffuser tube completely encloses the inflator and allows a last operation of assembly thereof.
Abstract:
An air bag module construction, and several new and useful components are provided for forming an air bag module. One of the new components comprises a receptacle with a specially designed reaction device which (i) is adapted physically to separate the receptacle into distinct compartments for an inflator and an air bag, and (ii) reinforces an open end of the receptacle in the areas most prone to deformation during deployment of the air bag. Another new and useful component comprises a prepackaged air bag unit which is loaded into and fastened to the receptacle as a prepackaged unit. The prepackaged air bag unit maintains the air bag in a predetermined folded configuration (i) before the air bag is coupled to the receptacle, (ii) while the air bag is being coupled to the receptacle, (iii) while the remainder of the module is being assembled, and (iv) after the module is installed in a vehicle.
Abstract:
An apparatus for helping to protect a driver side occupant of a vehicle having a steering yoke includes an airbag mounted to the steering yoke. The airbag is inflatable from a stored condition concealed in the steering yoke to a deployed condition in which the airbag is positioned between the steering yoke and the occupant. The apparatus also includes an airbag wrap for packaging the airbag in the stored condition. The airbag wrap is configured to bias the airbag to deploy initially in an initial deployment direction transverse to a steering axis of the steering yoke through a deployment opening defined by the airbag wrap and a pleat formed in the airbag wrap and secured with a tear stitch. The pleat is configured to initially reduce the size of the deployment opening, which limits initial deployment of the airbag through the deployment opening. The pleat is further configured to rupture in response to increasing airbag deployment forces to increase the size of the deployment opening for further deployment of the airbag therethrough.
Abstract:
Proposed is an airbag for a vehicle, the airbag includes a cushion provided on a roof of the vehicle and deployed when gas is injected, first binding parts each formed in a structure protruding from the cushion and provided with a hole configured to bind with a bracket, first fixing parts each provided on the cushion and configured to wrap and fix the cushion, a bracket configured to support the cushion in combination with the cushion, and second binding parts each formed in a structure protruding from the bracket and provided with a hook to restrain the bracket and the cushion through the hole of a corresponding one of the first binding parts, so that the bracket supports the cushion.
Abstract:
The present invention provides: an airbag cover which is formed by integrally joining a first base fabric and a second base fabric having mutually different characteristics, and has a joint portion that ensures high productivity in mass production; a method for manufacturing the airbag cover; and an airbag device. The present invention relates to an airbag cover for storing a bag-shaped cushion which is rolled up or folded before being inflated and deployed by a gas supplied from an inflater, and relates to a method for manufacturing the airbag cover. The airbag cover is characterized by comprising a first base fabric made of a plain-woven fabric or a non-woven fabric made from chemical fibers, and a second base fabric containing fibers different from the fibers constituting the first base fabric, and having an initial tensile resistance value higher than an initial tensile resistance value of the first base fabric.
Abstract:
In one aspect, an apparatus for protecting an occupant of a vehicle includes an airbag having a stored condition in which the airbag is deflated, flattened, and rolled and/or folded. A packaging wrap is formed from a fabric sheet. The packaging wrap includes a cover and an elongated tail that extends from the cover. The cover is configured to be wrapped or folded about the rolled and/or folded airbag to envelope and package the airbag in the stored condition. The tail is configured to be wrapped around the cover and the airbag packaged therein to secure the airbag packaged in the cover.
Abstract:
The disclosure relates to an airbag module that comprises an inflatable airbag, an inflator for inflating the airbag and a plurality of securing units for attaching the airbag module to a vehicle. The airbag has a C-shaped configuration including two juxtaposed legs in an imaginary cross-sectional plane that is transverse to its longitudinal extension. The disclosed design of the airbag is configured to improve deployment behavior such that in a mounting situation of the airbag 10 a central plane defined between the two legs intersects a vertical plane extending through the longitudinal extension of the airbag. A manufacturing method for an airbag module is disclosed.
