Abstract:
An improved single stage snowthrower includes a housing with an open front portion, the housing including two side walls, a rear wall therebetween and a discharge chute. The rear wall includes deflecting ledges that angle upwardly toward the discharge chute, inwardly toward the center of the housing and forwardly toward the open front. The deflecting ledges provide both an inward and an upward component to snow travelling in the housing. The snowthrower also includes an impeller having axial ends and a radial edge. The impeller is comprised of two molded identical body sections that are joined about a shaft. Each body section includes a central portion, two end portions and a pair of helical portions with one helical portion between each end portion and the central portion. A portion of the radial edge of the impeller includes a shovel-like projection that is oriented in a direction extending laterally away from the impeller in the direction of rotation of the impeller.
Abstract:
A vehicular apparatus which is adapted for removing fluids including snow and/or ice and de-icing or anti-icing liquids from a surface as the apparatus traverses the surface. The apparatus comprises: a first container for receiving a first portion of the fluids removed from a zone of the surface; apparatus for collecting and transferring the first portion of the fluids from the zone to the first container; a second container for collecting residual fluids remaining on the zone of the surface after the first portion is removed; a tank for containing water and a diaphragm pump for pumping water from the tank through nozzles at high pressure on the zone of the surface to loosen the residual fluids or make them airborne; and an air sweep connected in fluid communication with the second container for drawing or sweeping the loosened residual fluids and water into the second container concurrently with impinging high pressure water on the surface.
Abstract:
A combined snow plowing and snow throwing vehicle includes an elongate plow blade at its forward end. The plow blade can be shifted to direct snow to either of the right or the left and includes separate snow throwing fans mounted, respectively, at the right and left ends of the plow blade. A user-actuable control system provides independent actuation of the snow throwing structures so that the snow throwing structure at the downstream end of the plow blade is actuated regardless of whether the plow is directing snow to the right or to the left. This enables the vehicle to plow and throw snow to either the right or to the left and further enables the vehicle to clear snow while traveling both up and down an airport runway.
Abstract:
A manually operated snow plow has a frame which is mounted on a wheel and axle assembly so that it can be pushed along the ground. A snow scoop is rotatably mounted within a pan which is positioned just above the ground surface and securely connected to the front of the frame. The scoop is spring powered so that when the scoop has collected a load of snow the scoop can eject the snow (in a flipping motion) to the side of the area being cleared. A latch retains the scoop in position within the pan and against the spring tension. Manual release of the latch by means of a simple cable connection thus activates the spring mechanism of the scoop to eject the snow. After the scoop has ejected the snow, a handle positioned at the rear of the frame allows manual retraction of the scoop into the pan thereby bringing the scoop into a position where it can receive another snow load and simultaneously loading the spring mechanism.
Abstract:
A snowblower with a propeller drum seated on a free support axle that is disposed horizontally and perpendicular to the driving direction. The support axle is operated by a drive which is situated centrally within the drum. The snowblower also serves a lateral snowblowing function by the connection of a snowplow in place of the usual second drum. The side of the snowplow adjacent to the propeller drum is fixed rigidly to the housing. The back side of the snowplow is connected to a bushing which can be placed on the support axle normally provided for the removed propeller drum.
