A drive bay opening in the front bezel portion of a tower type computer CPU unit is provided with a swing-out plastic access door. The door is pivotable between a closed position and a full open stop position in which it is outwardly pivoted more than ninety degrees away from its closed position. A specially designed concealed, break-away hinge structure removably interconnects the access door and front bezel portion and includes a pair of hinge arms projecting outwardly from the door and molded integrally therewith. Outer end tabs in the hinge arms have apertures therein that rotatably receive hinge pins within recessed pocket areas in the bezel. In the event that the access door is forcibly pivoted outwardly beyond its full open stop position, separate disconnect pins disposed laterally outwardly of the hinge pins act as cams that torsionally deflect the hinge tabs out of engagement with the hinge pins. AS a result, the door simply pops off the bezel without damaging either the door, the hinge structure or the bezel. The hinge arm tabs of the separated, undamaged access door may subsequently be snapped back onto the hinge pins with chamfered edge portions of the tabs initially engaging domed portions of the hinge pins to torsionally deflect the tabs in a manner facilitating their reconnection to the hinge pins on the bezel.

The figure eight hinge of the present invention allows a gate to be quickly and safely attached to a support structure. The hinge includes two legs having two different radii of curvature. The legs also include a slot which allows the hinge to have the desired figure eight configuration. The present invention advantageously eliminates pinch points and minimizes the distance between the gate and the support structure. In particular, the hinge remains stationary with respect to the support structure while allowing the gate to rotate within one end of the hinge. The figure eight hinge is preferably used with animal enclosures such as kennels or pens because it reduces the risk that an animal will catching its feet or other body parts between the gate and the support structure.

The hingeless lid can be used with a toy box or any application that includes a horizontal and vertical lid position, and especially where it is desirable to reduce the likelihood of a freefalling lid. The hingeless lid of the invention includes a plurality of hingeless couplers, each coupler including a container portion having a plurality of ridges and pivots and a lid portion having a plurality of W-shaped members depending downwardly from the bottom surface of the lid. The W-shaped members include a first plurality of saddles for engaging the ridges and a second plurality of saddles for engaging the pivots. The engagement of the saddles and the ridges retains the lid against back-and-forth horizontal movement when the lid is in a closed position. The engagement of the saddles with the pivots provides a lever action and urges the lid into a frictional engagement with the container to retain the lid in an open position. The hingeless lid permits a substantially frictionless movement from a closed position to an open position, while frictionally resisting movement from an open position to a closed position.

The L-shaped panels are cantilevered from a fixed central roof lateral by means of an articulated, segmented hinge. Since the roof lateral is integrally formed between and is a part of the upright side panels (forming an unitary subassembly) and inasmuch as the particular elements of the hinge are individually molded and then pressure mounted together by hand in segments, the invention can be easily assembled, disassembled and reassembled without tools.The hinge is segmented and includes a pair of support members that are each Cee-shaped in cross section. The support members are open along their full elongated length to form coextensive front and back passageways that permit entry of enlarged lips of the L-shaped front and back panels therein. The orientation and design of the support members (they are complementary canted) and the shape of the lips (L-shaped), permit the front and back panels to be separately swingable about collinear axes coextensive of the roof lateral. Yet these panels can also be strongly locked in closed and quasi-open sneeze positions relative to a horizontal base surface, such as a table top. Further rotation of either panel coupled with rectilinear movement away from the supporting horizontal base, allows the user to completely remove such panel from the hinge.
