The shotshell cartridge includes a cylindrical hull, a sub-caliber projectile, a propellant charge, and a sabot. A central pathway or thin membrane is defined within the base of the sabot between the sub-caliber projectile and propellant charge. The barrel or barrel insert for firing the cartridge includes a transitional area between chamber and sub-caliber rifled bore to retain sabot in the cartridge. Upon cartridge firing, propellant gases flow through central portion of sabot base propelling projectile out of the sabot and into sub-caliber rifled bore.

    摘要: A rod sleeve made of smart material sleeves and/or steel sleeves with smart material rings surrounds the rod of a kinetic energy projectile. The rod may be made of DU, tungsten, or other material. Smart materials are materials such as nickel-titanium (nitinol) and copper aluminum nickel (CAN) that can be trained to change to one or more particular shapes at predetermined temperatures. The change in shape occurs on a molecular level, almost instantaneously. The rod sleeve can be made all or in part from smart material. The smart material is trained to shrink at cold temperatures and expand at hot temperatures. The sleeve may then be heated and expanded to allow the sleeve to be pressed on the rod. As the sleeve cools, it compresses and provides required support to rod during gun launch of the kinetic energy projectile. The sleeve heats up while traveling down range due to the aero-ballistic heating of the sleeve material. At this higher temperature, the sleeve expands. Upon projectile impact with the target, the sleeve minimally penetrates the target, allowing the rod to slip supported through the sleeve and penetrate the target. The sleeve supports the rod as it penetrates the target but does not inhibit its penetration, remaining behind as the rod continues to penetrate the target.

    摘要: A projectile for an air arm is integrally formed from a single piece of dense malleable material formed as a body of revolution about a longitudinal axis having a head portion dimensioned for free sliding in the bore of an air arm and a skirt-like portion of frusto-conical form. The rearward end of the skirt portion is dimensioned to be in slight interference fit with the bore and the forward end is joined with the head portion to define a reduced diameter waist. The frustum is shell-walled, having a central recess opening to the rear and extending forwardly into the head portion. The head portion has a parabolically shaped outer surface which transitions smoothly into a hyperbolically shaped outer skirt surface for aerodynamic efficiency. Vanes are formed on the head portion to enhance in-flight spiraling rotation.

    摘要: An improved paintball comprised of a spherical shell defining a closed interior wherein a marking material is contained. Depressions are molded into the shell to create turbulences in the air around the ball as it flies through the air. The turbulence forces the air to hug the ball closely, following the curvature of the ball to the back instead of flowing past it, therefore creating a smaller wake and less drag. The depressions are formed deep into the interior of the paintball to act as paddles. The paddles serve the purpose of moving the marking material to match the spin of the shell.

    摘要: A ring airfoil style paintball comprises a ring airfoil carrying a visible marking agent. The marking agent is located in one more compartments in a nose portion of a body of the ring airfoil, or within one or more containers located in those compartments. The nose portion of the body of the airfoil is configured to rupture upon impacting a target, releasing the marking agent into contact with the target. Cartridges comprising a sabot containing the ring airfoil style paintball are launched from a launcher. The launcher includes a magazine for sequentially delivering cartridges for launch. A stripper associated with the launcher strips the sabot from the ring airfoil paintball, and an ejector ejects the stripped sabot from the launcher.

In some embodiments, the systems include a first part being non-spherical and having an exterior, a plurality of stabilizing fins secured with the exterior of at the first part, and a second part have a hollow portion containing an inhibiting substance, wherein the second part is sealed with the first part to seal the inhibiting substance within at least the hollow portion. The first part can similarly have a hollow portion such that a volume is defined by the hollow portion of the first part and the hollow portion of the second part, wherein the inhibiting substance is contained within the volume. The fins can be angled to provide spin stabilizing.
