    摘要: Cylindrical prescription containers are propelled through a pneumatic transport system at high speeds by low pressure, high-velocity air. Upon arrival at destination stations within the transport system, curvilinear decelerators slow them by directing them through a plurality of curved paths where they dissipate momentum. Once slowed, the containers are deposited upon a moving conveyor to be staged into the next processing station at an even pace. The decelerators comprise curved vanes surrounding the container path, the vanes being held in a fixed, curvilinear relation to each other and the container by a series of yokes surrounding and engaging the vanes. The conveyor is driven by a servo motor controllable by the transport system to pace containers as needed by the next processing station.

    摘要: A braking device and method is provided that is operative to selectively slow and/or stop a pneumatic carrier within a pneumatic carrier system. Generally, the device includes a pneumatic tube that is sized to permit the passage of pneumatic carriers. The pneumatic tube includes at least one braking element that may be disposed into the bore of the pneumatic tube to at least partially impede the passage of a pneumatic carrier through the bore. In one embodiment, the braking element is formed as a variable diameter section of the pneumatic tube that may be selectively constricted to change the diameter of the bore of the pneumatic tube. Such constriction may slow and/or stop the passage of a pneumatic carrier through the bore of the pneumatic tube.

    摘要: A pneumatic transmission system is provided. The system comprises a transmission tube having a first end and a second end. A blower adapted to force air from the first end to the second end of the transmission tube is interconnected to the first end of the transmission tube. A vacuum source having a capacity at least as great as that of the blower is connected to the transmission tube proximal the second end. The vacuum source creates a flow of air from the second end of the transmission tube to the vacuum source, thereby decelerating a carrier being transmitted to the second end of the transmission tube.

    摘要: A conveying system for pneumatically conveying fragile, light weight workpieces by timed pulses of compressed air. Each pulse of air is used to propel a workpiece along a path that leads into a downwardly sloping chute and to decelerate the workpiece after it travels a selected distance down the chute so that all the initial momentum given the workpiece by the pulse of air is removed such that the workpiece will continue down the chute only under the influence of gravity. By decelerating or retarding the propelled workpiece it is prevented from impacting against queued workpieces, that proceeded it down the chute, with a high velocity that can cause breaking, chipping or jamming of the workpieces.

    摘要: Apparatus is provided for use in delivering a container within a conduit from a first, raised location, to a second lower location with the conduit remaining substantially at atmospheric pressure. The container includes a descent-regulating member having an exterior configuration which closely approximates the interior configuration of the conduit thereby providing a braking effect on the container as it traverses the conduit from the upper to the lower location and causing the container to descend within the conduit at a substantially constant, controlled rate. The apparatus includes provision for inserting containers within the conduit at the first location and removing containers from the conduit at the second location without substantially changing the amount of fluid within the conduit between the first and second locations. In a preferred embodiment, the conduit is closed at the ends proximate both the first and second locations. Alternately, the conduit may be closed only at the top end or only at the bottom end. The rate of descent of the container within the conduit is such that fragile contents can be transported therein without special support or cushioning.
