    摘要: The inside of a planar, annular disk having a thickness of from about 0.8 to about 2 mm is cold flexed into a cylindrical, sealing stub about a shaft. For this, the inside diameter of the disk before cold flexing about the shaft is from about 1 to about 6 times the thickness of the disk less than the diameter of the shaft. A stiffening ring is sealingly attached about the outside of the disk with the line of the innermost attachment therebetween being from about 1.1 to about 4 times the thickness of the disk from the surface of the shaft.

    摘要: A lip seal of elastic material has at least one sealing lip having a knife-edge sealing ridge particularly for sealing an axially moving part of a device from a liquid space, for instance in a galvanic metal-air cell. In order to improve the sealing of the axially moving device part with respect to the liquid space and to lengthen the sealing action, a membrane-like protective lip is formed on the liquid side in front of the sealing ridge, the lip resting with areal contact against the device part which is to be sealed off. The membrane-like protective lip due to its inherent tension or initial tension applies itself with high unit surface pressure against the surface of the device part to be sealed off.

    摘要: An axial seal assembly is for sealing against a radial engagement surface of an outer member or an inner member disposed within a bore of the outer member. The seal assembly includes an annular case coupled with the outer member or disposed about the inner member and an annular elastomeric seal body. The seal body includes an inner portion attached to the case and an outer portion extending axially and radially from the inner portion so as to be positionable generally parallel to the radial engagement surface. The outer portion has a contact section extending generally axially from a remainder of the outer portion and being sealingly engageable with the radial engagement surface, the seal body outer portion being bendable about the seal body inner portion such that the seal body outer portion remains parallel to the engagement surface during axial displacement between the annular case and the engagement surface.

    摘要: A leather flange for a bidirectional seal assembly includes a radial flange leg encircling a rotation axis of the leather flange. The leather flange also includes an oblique flange leg encircling the rotation axis and joined to the radial flange leg. The oblique flange leg extends both radially inward and axially away from the radial flange leg to form an oblique angle with the rotation axis. An end face of the oblique flange leg forms a sinusoidal pattern around a circumference of the leather flange. The end face also meets an air-side surface of the oblique flange leg to form a lip. When the leather flange is installed around a shaft, the lip forms a sinusoidal path around the circumference of the shaft. As the shaft rotates, the sinusoidal path of the lip creates an axial back-and-forth sweeping action.
