An attachable book holder is disclosed for a piano having a music rest, where the music rest has upper and lower outer surfaces. The attachable book holder comprises an elongate finger element and an attachment means which is connected to the elongate finger element at a connection point. The attachment means is attachable to at least one of the outer surfaces of the music rest at one or more contact regions. The elongate finger element is adjustable between a first orientation in which the finger element extends upwards from the connection point and a second orientation. The attachable book holder can be used on modern pianos which are supplied without book holders as part of the music rest, or alternatively the attachable book holder can be used to replace faulty or missing book holders on older pianos. In the former case there is no need to drill the casing of the book rest to attach the book holder to the music rest.

A drive mechanism of a lifting rail for a musical instrument including a lifting rail, the drive mechanism including: a connection member connected to the lifting rail; and a movement-force giving mechanism configured to move the lifting rail via the connection member, wherein the lifting rail includes: a hollow portion opening at one end; and a through-hole formed through an upright wall portion of the lifting rail, wherein the connection member includes: an insertion member having an attachment hole corresponding to the through-hole; a fixing member for connecting the lifting rail and the connection member; and a contact portion configured to come into contact with the one end of the lifting rail when the insertion member is inserted in the hollow portion by a prescribed distance so as to prevent the insertion member from being further inserted in the hollow portion, thereby positioning the attachment hole relative to the through-hole.

A damper for an upright piano is provided for improving sound stopping capabilities and consequently improving sequential touching capabilities without adversely affecting a key touch feeling. The damper lever for an upright piano is pressed against a vibrating string to stop the vibration in response to a released key, in order to stop sound which has been generated from the vibrating string. The damper lever comprises a molding molded by a continuous fiber method and made of a thermoplastic resin containing long fibers for reinforcement.

A jack used in an action mechanism of a piano has substantially an L-shape, composed of a big jack portion and a small jack portion. The thickness of the small jack portion is made smaller than that of the big jack portion in a direction of key arrangement in a state of the jack being fitted in the piano. By reducing the weight of the small jack portion as above, the time required for the jack to return to a position capable of pushing up a part of a striking member can be shortened. Accordingly, more frequent repetitive striking is allowed within a predetermined period.

A safety device used on pianos to prevent the slamming of keyboard lid. Present invention uses a suction cup with a rod that can be folded down, so that it takes up very limited room, when it rod is down. When in use, if the piano keyboard lid is tilted towards the closing position, a rubber roller on top of the rod will contact the inner surface of the lid and stop the falling motion, preventing injuries to piano player's hand or fingers. The inner 90-degree angle of the lid will serve as a catch-well for the rubber roller to prop up the lid.

A plurality of strings are stretched over a frame, constituting an overall framework of a body of a piano, with their respective rear-end engaging rings engaged by corresponding pins provided on the frame. There is also provided a string-bounding preventing member that, in case any one of the strings snaps or breaks, prevents the broken string from disengaging from the corresponding pin to bound violently away from the pin. The string-bounding preventing member is, for example, a strap member that is passed through the respective engaging rings to thereby connect together the strings. The string-bounding preventing member allows the broken string to be left connected with the other strings and hence stay in place on the frame without bounding.

A shank flange for use in a piano for supporting a hammer which makes a pivotal movement in response to depression on a key. The shank flange comprises a molding made of thermosetting resin containing long fibers for reinforcement. The molding is molded by a long-staple method. The long fibers are carbon fibers. The shank flange excels in homogeneity and dimension stability, and has a high rigidity which can assure a smooth and stable action of the hammer. Also, dust and the like can be prevented from sticking to the shank flange and its surroundings, thus maintaining a precise action of the hammer and an aesthetically good appearance around the shank flange.

A piano includes an underlever assembly having an underlever arm and an underlever support joining the underlever arm to a string damper. The underlever arm is mounted to move between an at-rest position and a second position. A latch is mounted to a latch mount for movement between non-latching and latching positions. In latching position, the latch engages a latch surface of the underlever support to maintain the string damper spaced from a corresponding piano string. A stop mounted to the latch mount limits movement of the underlever arm toward its second position. A method for controlling a piano string damper includes contacting the underlever arm with the latch to maintain the string damper spaced from the string, and contacting the underlever arm with the stop to limit movement of the underlever arm.

A keyboard musical instrument is a compromise between an upright piano and an electronic keyboard, and a hammer stopper is provided between hammer shanks and sets of strings; the hammer stopper has cushion members on a stopper rail where the hammer shanks rebound before a strike against the strings, and a pair of parallelogram crank mechanisms are connected to both end portions of the stopper rail so as to project the cushion members into and retract them from the trajectories of the hammer shanks, thereby decreasing space occupied by the cushion members.
