Abstract:
A burner tube and door assembly for a water heater includes a burner tube and a fuel supply line in telescoping relationship to define a tube junction. The tube junction extends through the door of a water heater. One of the tube and line includes an enlarged portion. A lock ring applies a radially-directed force around a portion of the tube junction. The enlarged portion and lock ring are on opposite sides of the door to secure the door to the burner tube and fuel supply line. The enlarged portion and lock ring apply a compressive load to the door to resist rotation of the door with respect to the tube junction.
Abstract:
Ovens for heat treating products may include a gas power burner having a burner tube assembly, a venturi tube assembly, and a blower mount. The burner tube assembly has a plurality of air inlet holes extending from an outer surface to an inner surface of the burner tube. The blower mount has an opening spaced from the outer surface of the burner tube for receiving a flow of combustion air directed in a first direction toward the burner tube. The opening of the blower mount is disposed out of axial alignment with the plurality of air inlet holes such that a portion of the burner tube and the blower mount form an air manifold for redirecting the flow of combustion air from the first direction around the burner tube and towards the air inlet holes. Methods for delivering air to a gas power burner are also disclosed.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to apparatus and a method for measuring ammonia in biochemical processes, and more particularly to apparatus for real time measuring the amount of ammonia in a liquid with or without suspended solids.
Abstract:
An interface between a network communication card and an industrial controller allows rapid asynchronous buffering using two buffers and two associated registers for each data direction. A reading of the buffers is proceeded by an attempt to copy from the write designation register to the read designation register checking the equality of the register values and then reading from the buffer designated by their common value. Conclusion of the reading sets the write destination register to zero. Writing of the buffers is proceeded by a checking of the read designation register for zero value and then writing to other than the last buffer indicated by the write designation register. If the read designation register is non-zero, then the writing occurs to the opposite buffer of that in the read designation register. The write designation register is then updated to indicate the buffer written to.
Abstract:
The present invention is directed to an apparatus and method for the distillation of a readily polymerizable vinyl aromatic compound employing a polymerization inhibitor. The vinyl aromatic compound is subjected to distillation in at least one fractionation column having at least one reboiler for maintaining the bottoms of said column at a proper temperature. The reboiler includes a heating section and a vapor phase section. The bottoms fraction from the fractionation column is cycled to the reboiler and subjected to heat to vaporize at least a portion of the bottoms fraction to form a vapor phase in the vapor section, A slip stream of the bottoms fraction is introduced to the vapor phase section of the reboiler. The slipstream contains polymerization inhibitor that had been added to the process at the fractionation column. The invention reduces fouling at the reboilers. The slipstream is optionally introduced to the reboiler using one or more spray nozzles. The polymerization inhibitor is added to the fractionation column in sufficient amounts to maintain a concentration of at least 400 parts per million by weight in the bottoms fraction.
Abstract:
The present invention discloses the use of permanently charged steroid agonists or antagonists as potent anti-angiogenic compositions comprising as an active ingredient a compound of the general formulae I, II or III: ##STR1## wherein DRUG is any steroid agonist or antagonist, a mixed agonist-antagonist, or a partial agonist and the substituents are as defined in the specification.
Abstract:
A power supply lockout circuit that prevents corruption of nonvolatile writeable memory data is described. The power supply lockout circuit monitors the power supply signals from several power supplies. The power supply lockout circuit locks out commands writing to the nonvolatile writeable memory when any one of the monitored power supply signals coupled to the nonvolatile writeable memory is below a specified signal level. The power supply lockout circuit includes a detector which provides a lockout signal to the nonvolatile writeable memory when a power supply signal is less than a prespecified voltage. The power supply lockout circuit also includes a sampling circuit which provides other lockout signals to the nonvolatile writeable memory when a different power supply signal is less than a reference voltage.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for determining whether a user of a system is an authorized user or an imposter by examining the keystroke characteristics of the user. The authorized user initially enters a number of user training samples on a keyboard. The user training samples are then purified to eliminate training samples which are different from other training samples. The purification can be performed by a self-organizing neural network which has input thereto, authorized user training samples, or both authorized training samples and imposter training samples. The purified user training samples are then compared to a sample to be tested to determine whether the sample is from an authorized user or an imposter. The comparison of the purified samples with the sample to be tested can be performed by a neural network such as a back propagation trained network, an ADALINE unit, a distance method or a linear classifier, discriminate function, or piecewise linear classifier. The result of this testing step indicates whether the user is authorized or an imposter and the user can be granted or denied access to the system.
Abstract:
A cigarette lighter securing accessory includes a lighter holder connected to a lighter by extensible cord means, means for retracting the cord means from an extended position, and, preferably, means on the holder for attaching it to a support. A preferred additional element, for use with a replaceable and/or disposable lighter, is a lighter receptacle, which is removably connected to the lighter and is connected to the cord, between them.
Abstract:
An auxiliary bearing structure having a selflubricating sleeve which is, upon main bearing failure, engaged by a shaft mounted runner which also actuates a main bearing failure indicator. A portion of the runner also provides a debris shield between the main bearing and auxiliary bearing. Main bearing failure annunciation is accomplished by the runner abrading insulation from an insulated electrical probe during main bearing failure.
