摘要： A method and apparatus for securing an initial tail of film to a load while wrapping the load with packaging material are provided. The method includes holding a leading end of packaging material while providing relative rotation between the load and the dispenser to wrap film around the load. A portion of the leading end of film is secured to a fixed wrapping structure while the leading end of the film is held. After the leading end is secured to the fixed wrapping structure, the leading end of the film is released. The released leading end of the film is then secured to the load. The apparatus holds a leading end of packaging material and provides relative rotation between the load and a dispenser to dispense packaging material. The apparatus also secures a held leading end of packaging material and secures a released leading end of packaging material between two layers of packaging material. A method and apparatus for securing a final tail of film to the load also are provided.

摘要： A method and apparatus for providing corners of a load with cornerboards prior to wrapping the load is provided. The method may include providing a load on a load transport surface, removing a cornerboard from within a magazine by a gripper, and transporting the cornerboard to a corner of the load with the gripper. Relative rotation may be provided between the stretch wrap packaging material dispenser and the load to wrap the stretch wrap packaging material around the cornerboard and the load. If the cornerboard is not pre-formed, it is folded prior to transport to the load. The cornerboard is secured to the corner of the load with the stretch wrap packaging material. In a preferred embodiment, four magazines and four grippers are provided, such that four cornerboards can be carried to the load at the same time.

摘要： An apparatus and method for wrapping a top and bottom of a load with packaging material is provided. The apparatus includes at least one non-driven packaging material guide is provided for use in combination with a powered conveying surface. The non-powered packaging material guide includes at least one row of non-driven wheels attached to a rail. The force applied by the packaging material as it is wrapped around the guide is supported by both the rail and the at least one row of non-driven wheels. The rail also serves to bridge any gaps between the non-driven wheels, thereby preventing capture of packaging material between the non-driven wheels. Preferably, the packaging material guide includes two rows of non-driven wheels, one on each side of the rail. Further, it is preferable that the rail connect the two rows of wheels such that the two rows of wheels form an angle of 60 degrees between them. The packaging material guide is preferably positioned above the load but may also be positioned either below the load or to the sides of the load.

摘要： A leading end of packaging material is grasped in a packaging material holder while a load is wrapped. Packaging material is dispensed from a packaging material dispenser, and relative rotation is provided between the dispenser and a load to wrap packaging material around the load. The packaging material holder may be positioned on the rotating surface of a turntable but isolated from any electrical or fluid power source of a rotatable surface of the turntable. During the wrapping cycle, the packaging material holder moves downstream along the turntable, automatically releasing the leading end of the packaging material and automatically grasping a trailing end of the packaging material. The packaging material is weakened and then severed between the packaging material holder and the load. The packaging material holder is mounted to permit it to move upstream due to force exerted by the packaging material held in the holder.

摘要： A stretch wrapping system including apparatus and process is disclosed in which rotation of a noncylindrical or off-centered load draws film web at a continually fluctuating speed from a film roll through a prestretching device to wrap the load. The prestretching device includes an upstream roller coupled to a braking device and a downstream roller coupled to a positive torque device. The speed of the downstream roller is proportional to the take-up speed of the web on the load and the feedback device continually senses the speed of both rollers and adjusts the braking device so that the speed ratio of the rollers produces a constant stretch of the film web above its yield point. The feedback device also continually senses the forces contributed by the braking device and the torque device and continually adjusts the torque device so that the force on the web between the downstream roller and the load is held constant at a level below the yield point of the web. The feedback device may be connected to display systems to display the amount of web stretch, the web force to the load, and the amount of film web consumed in a wrapping operation.

摘要： An apparatus for wrapping a plurality of loads into a wrapped package comprising a conveyor adapted to receive a plurality of loads and a film dispensing apparatus. This film dispensing apparatus comprises a frame, a ring member rotatably mounted on the frame, a film roll support and brake member mounted on the ring member. A guide wrapping rail is aligned with the conveyor to receive and carry loads transported by the conveyor and is so positioned that one end passes through the ring member. A material handling assembly having two clamp mechanisms, is positioned adjacent the dispenser apparatus. One of the clamp mechanisms is adapted to alternately hold the leading edge of a roll of stretchable material carried by the ring member film roll support in a fixed position while the other clamp mechanism holds the trailing edge of the stretchable material to form the package wrap. Each clamp mechanism comprises two opposing bar members and a cutting blade secured to one bar member with its cutting edge being positioned between the two bar members for severing the web of the last wrap of overwrap material placed around the load. A drive wheel engages the ring member to alternately rotate the ring member in alternate opposite directions so that it dispenses material around the guide rail, the clamp mechanisms, and the load currently being carried by the guide rail with the brake member stretching the material as it is being placed around the load.

摘要： An apparatus and process for effecting a flying splice of vertically positioned rolls of plastic film mounted on a reel. Each supply roll of film has an adhesive strip extending diagonally across the leading edge of the film web with a sleeve member mounted to the bottom of the adhesive strip. The sleeve member is moveably mounted on a guide member mounted to the reel to hold the leading edge in position and in correct orientation for its engagement with the film web of the expiring roll. The supply roll when rotated by the reel positions the leading edge of the supply roll with its adhesive strip against film web dispensed from the expiring roll, so that the leading edge of the film web of the supply roll is carried off the roll, with the sleeve member being carried off of the guide member.
