摘要: Recording of data into a multilayer optical disk and reliable reproduction of the data are enabled. When user data are recorded on a multilayer optical disk having a first layer L0 and a second layer L1, the second layer L1 is formatted beforehand, to thus record dummy data. Subsequently, the user data are recorded into the first layer L0. Even after completion of recording of the user data at some point in the first layer L0, an area of the second layer L1 located immediately above or below a recorded area of the first layer L0 remains in a recorded state at all times. Compatibility with a play-only disk is maintained, and the play-only drive can reproduce the user data immediately after recording of the data.

摘要: An optical disk device which drives an HD-DVD or the like. When recording or reproducing data with respect to an optical disk of HD-DVD, the address information is demodulated by an address decoding circuit and is supplied to a system controller. The system controller performs error checking using the CRC technique. When a resulting CRC value does not correspond to CRC bits, the system controller regards a bit in which the number of waves in wobbles having the same phase is not four, which is a predetermined value, as an error bit, and performs bit data replacement with respect to the error bit. Specifically, the system controller searches for a combination of bit values by which a resulting CRC value matches the CRC bits, thereby performing error correction. At this time, the system controller tries the data value replacement preferentially using a combination of bit values by which the address is advanced by one address from the immediately previous address which is fixed among all the possible combinations with respect to the error bits.

摘要: A high-definition optical disk device for recording and reproducing data with respect to lands and grooves of an optical disk. The grooves and the lands of the optical disk are wobbled, and address information is embedded in gray code. In the grooves and the lands, both groove track address systems and land track address systems are embedded and form redundant systems. When detecting the address of a land, in addition to demodulation of the address data from the land track address system, the address data is also extracted from the groove track address system. The address data thus extracted is used for verification to detect an error in the demodulated address data.

摘要: To detect an MSK modulation mark from an MSK-modulated wobble signal without fail. A wobble signal of an optical disk is supplied to an address decoding circuit. The address decoding circuit performs exclusive-OR operation of a binarized wobble signal and a reference clock signal generated from the wobble signal by an PLL circuit, to thus compute a proportion of the exclusive-OR result assuming a value of one every half period of a reference clock signal. When there are continuously present a predetermined number of sections or more where a proportion becomes a predetermined threshold proportion or more, the sections are detected as an MSK modulation mark. A system controller changes the threshold proportion in accordance with crosstalk from an adjacent track.

摘要: An optical disc device for changing intensities of light beams illuminated on an optical disc. The optical disc device comprises the following elements. A photo detecting device divided into a plurality of photo detectors is used for detecting the reflected light beams illuminated on an optical disc. A plurality of amplifiers is used for changing gains to respectively amplify the output signals of the photo detectors when recording and reproducing on/from the optical disc. A calculating device is used for calculating the output signals of the amplifiers to generate the servo signals. By adding the correction offset signals for correcting the offset voltages of the amplifiers and the photo detectors to the amplifiers, the correction offset signals are amplified. It is, therefore, not necessary to change the correction offset voltages even though the gain of the amplifier is changed and not necessary to change the offset voltage and is independent of the gain-switching of the amplifier.

摘要: When recording data on a multilayer optical disk, the recording power for a recording layer provided further from the laser beam incident side is optimized. An optical disk includes a first layer and a second layer. When recording data onto the second layer, the amount of return light at the space forming time is detected, and whether the first layer is in an unrecorded state or in a recorded state is determined in accordance with the level of the amount of return light. Then, the recording power for the second layer is changed in accordance with the determination result regarding the unrecorded/recorded state of the first layer. If the transmittance of the first layer decreases as a result of data recording, the recording power for the second layer in a case where the first layer is in the recorded state is set greater than the recording power for the second layer in a case where the first layer is in the unrecorded state. Because the recording power is changed in accordance with the determination result regarding the state of the first layer, the order of recording data in the first layer and the second layer can be set as desired.

摘要: An optical disk apparatus for recording data on an optical disk having a land pre-pit (LPP). An encoder of a DVD-R/RW drive records data while inserting synchronization information having a length of 14T at the top of a synchronous frame. The encoder sets synchronization information of the i-th frame (wherein i is an integer which is 0 or greater) and the (i+1)th frame of a plurality of consecutive frames to either a mark or a space such that each DSV is minimized. The encoder sets the synchronization information of the (i+2)th frame such that the polarity of the synchronization information of the (i+2)th frame is opposite to the polarity of the synchronization information of the i-th frame, and sets the synchronization information of (i+3)th frame such that the polarity of the synchronization information of (i+3)th frame is opposite to the polarity of the synchronization information of the (i+1)th frame. In this manner, the synchronization information of one of two frames, whether they are two odd frames or two even frames, is always set to a space.

摘要: An optical disk device which uses address information to perform a checking process on an optical disk. In an HD-DVD optical disk, data is recorded in both grooves and lands. A groove (G) track address system which is exclusively used for a groove is formed in a groove track and a land (L) track address system which is exclusively used for a land is formed in a land track. When the address of a target groove track is determinate and fixed to n, the optical disk device reads address information of the L track address system in the groove track and determines whether or not the address which is read corresponds to n or n−1. When the address which is read corresponds to n or n−1, the optical disk is determined to be normal. When the address which is read does not correspond to n or n−1, it is determined that the optical disk is defective.

摘要: An optical disk device reproduces an RF signal by projecting a light beam on an optical disk and detecting a reflected light therefrom. On the optical disk, information is recorded by forming a pit on a track determined according to a groove having a wobble signal recorded thereon. The optical disk device comprises a comparator comparing the RF signal with a threshold value so as to output a binary signal, a first band-pass filter filtering a frequency band of the wobble signal from the binary signal so as to extract a wobble signal component, and a first adder obtaining a value by adding the wobble signal component to a fixed reference value so as to supply the value to the comparator as the threshold value.
