摘要： A method is disclosed of preparing edges of sheets to be bound in a text body. The method includes cutting a printed sheet along a straight line passing through the center of the sheet using an irregular cutting edge having an irregularity selected to form cut sheets with a rough edge having a roughness that is a function of desired adhesive wicking; and aligning the cut sheets on top of each other with the rough edges adjacent one another.

Plural sheets are accumulated against the adhesive layer, and heat is applied to a side of the adhesive layer adjacent the backing material to locally melt only a portion of the adhesive layer in a vicinity of an additional sheet accumulated against the adhesive layer.

摘要： A method for adhesive binding and assembly of text bodies having plural sheets to a cover to form a bound document. Exemplary embodiments include applying an adhesive to a contacting surface of a plurality of sheets of the text body on an individual sheet-wide basis and adhering the plurality of sheets to the cover on an individual sheet-wide base by making line contact between the contacting surface and the cover and by curing the adhesive. Alternatively, the plurality of sheets can be positioned in a stand-off position from the cover and the adhesive can be applied into the gap. A system for binding a text body to a cover to form a bound document is also disclosed.

摘要： A method of forming a bound document includes providing a text body defining a first sheet and a last sheet, aligned edges of the sheets defining a spine, the spine being bound with an adhesive strip to define a first wing and a second wing of the adhesive strip, wherein the first wing extends beyond the first sheet of the text body, and the second wing extends beyond the last sheet of the text body. The method further includes compressing the first wing of the adhesive strip against the first sheet to form a first exposed adhesive bead; compressing the second wing of the adhesive strip against the last sheet to form a second exposed adhesive bead; and applying a cover over the text body and against the first and second exposed adhesive beads to attach the cover to the bound text body as a floating cover.

摘要： An intraoral data input tool for use during dental examination of a patient comprises a discoid head attached to a handle. The discoid head includes a data input device which is responsive to force applied by a stylus, and may also include a mirror. The input device may be a set of push buttons or a touch sensitive display. The intraoral input device is configured to allow a dental examiner to input data while the input device is positioned in the patient's mouth. The data input device is linked to a computer system either by an electrical connector and cable or a wireless communication device. A display may be included in the discoid head; the display may be used for confirmation of input examination data.
