摘要: The invention relates to apparatus for treating a multi-panel or multi-sheet web of paper or similar electrostatically chargeable material. A multi-layer web of such material is advanced toward and through at least one cutter to yield a succession of stacks which are ready for assembly into piles and/or for other processing. The arrangement for moving the web and there-upon the stacks lengthwise includes a first unit up-stream and a second unit downstream of the cutter, and an ionizing unit is installed adjacent the path of the web and stacks, either between the first moving unit and the cutter or between the cutter and the second moving unit. In either event, the ionizing unit is closely adjacent the cutter. If the stacks are to be assembled into a succession of piles downstream of the second moving unit, the apparatus further comprises an electrostatic discharging device in the region of the pile forming station.

摘要: The inventive method and apparatus serve to combine into groups different printed products supplied as continuous flows (1, 2, 3 etc.), on at least one grouping section (10.1, 10.2, 10.3), in which each group can have a composition of in each case one product from different supply flows corresponding to a predetermined group sequence. The production of faulty groups is prevented, in that in the supplies errors are detected at an early stage, so that groups affected by an error, are not formed in the predetermined cycle and are instead displaced by one cycle. The group flow leaving the method consequently contains only gaps and not faulty groups. For performing the method between the supplies (63.4, 63.5) of products and the grouping (10.1, 10.2) are introduced a supply control, a supply buffer storage and a controlled delivery. The means (64.2, 64.3, 64.4 etc.) for performing these three method stages are constituted by conveyors with cams or drivers, which are interconnected with a drag connection and which are moved by two substantially independently controlled drives on a continuous guide. The drivers are controlled following an acceptance point at which they have accepted a product from the supply unit (63.4, 63.5) and faulty products are recorded. They then pass into a buffer storage space and leave the latter through a controlled delivery point, where they deliver the product into the grouping.

摘要: The gluing apparatus has several carrier arms attached to a rotating organ, which carry holders at their free ends. Each holder picks up an attachment slip at the supply point, transports it past an adhesive-applicator apparatus whereby adhesive is applied to the attachment slips, and on to the printed products to which the slips are then attached. The printed products are transported on supports placed perpendicular to the feed direction (A), the holders enter between consecutive pairs of supports and have means of control to move them against supports, in order to glue the attachment slips on the printed products and press them firmly into place.

摘要: Embedded intelligence in the form of machine readable indicia printed on at least some of the sheets of a document is used by a document integrating device to control a feeding operation performed by the document integrating device. Regular sheets located in the document immediately preceding the location of an insert sheet are output with machine readable information indicative of the subsequent location in the document of an insert sheet. These regular sheets are then supplied to a document integrater (either in a stack or as they are output from an imaging device). A first scanner in the document integrater scans the regular sheets as they are fed from an inlet (having, for example, a regular sheet feeder unit). When a regular sheet located in the document immediately prior to an insert sheet is fed from the inlet, the machine readable information indicative of the subsequent insert sheet is read by the first scanner. A controller of the document integrater then switches from feeding sheets from the regular sheet inlet to an insert sheet feeder unit containing insert sheets. The last insert sheet for each insert location in the document includes machine readable information thereon which causes the controller to switch back to feeding the regular sheets from the regular sheet inlet (or from some other insert sheet feeder unit).

摘要: A portable on-line tipping apparatus is intended for use with a signature inserting machine. The apparatus comprises (a) a frame assembly, (b) a drive system base mounted on the frame assembly which is capable of vertical adjustment, (c) an auxiliary chain drive system mounted on the base, (d) a raceway on the frame assembly for receiving a signature from a hopper of the signature inserting machine, (e) an adhesive applying mechanism on the frame assembly for directing a bead of adhesive to a signature, and (f) an elongated catch saddle positioned on above the raceway for properly positioning an insert so as to overlie the adhesive bead. The auxiliary chain drive system of the on-line tipping apparatus is driven by the main conveyor chain drive system of the signature inserting machine to ensure proper insert placement.

摘要: The printed products to be provided with inserts or supplements are infed in respective pairs by an infeed conveyor to a processing drum or cell wheel. The cell wheel comprises substantially radially extending compartments which are open at the periphery of the cell wheel. Product feed devices, for example, clamps or grippers are arranged in the compartments for forwardly advancing the printed products located in the compartments. Each compartment is divided into two feed channels by a removable divider or partition wall. These divider or partition walls terminate at a predeterminate spacing from the product feed devices. Each of the two printed products which are conjointly conveyed as a pair are infed into a respective feed channel. The printed products in the feed channels of each compartment are then conjointly advanced and approximately simultaneously opened and are furnished with an insert or supplement. This is possible, in spite of their mutual advancement, since the printed products are separated from one another by a divider or partition wall and thus do not completely repose upon one another.

摘要: In the substantially radially extending compartments of a cell wheel or drum of a processing apparatus for processing printed products, there are inserted removable divider or partition walls. The removable divider or partition walls divide each of the compartments into two feed channels. These divider or partition walls terminate at a predetermined distance or spacing from the floor of the compartments. Feed structure, such as grippers for advancing the printed products are arranged in the region of the floor of each compartment and such feed structure commonly coacts with both feed channels. A printed product is inserted into each feed channel. Both printed products are conjointly advanced in the longitudinal direction of the compartments by the related product feed structure and these products are simultaneously opened and furnished with inserts. The opening of the printed products and the stuffing of inserts is done separately. The divider or partition walls can be removed without difficulty, whereby the number of reception spaces or regions (feed channels) for printed products is reduced by one half.
