Abstract: A method of operating a dryer appliance includes performing a first sensor cycle of the dryer appliance. The first sensor cycle includes rotating a drum of the dryer appliance and activating a heating system of the dryer appliance according to a first set of cycle parameters. The method also includes detecting one or more user interactions with the dryer appliance and inferring from the one or more detected user interactions that the dry performance of the first sensor cycle was unsatisfactory. The method further includes defining a second set of cycle parameters in response to the one or more detected user interactions. The method also includes performing a second sensor dry cycle of the dryer appliance according to the second set of cycle parameters after the first sensor dry cycle.

Abstract: An appliance includes an external communication port, such as an RJ45 port, and a wireless communication module in wireless communication with a remote server through an external network. A controller is configured to detect port activity at the external communication port, e.g., by detecting a plug-in or data transfer, transmit a notification of the port activity to the remote server using the wireless communication module, receive an activity assessment, e.g., such as an activity approval or disapproval, from the remote server, and adjust at least one operating parameter of the appliance in response to the activity assessment.

Abstract: A laundry system may include a washing machine appliance and a dryer appliance. The washing machine appliance may include a first controller configured to initiate a washing operation. The first controller may be configured store wash control information of a plurality of discrete washing operation occurrences of the washing machine appliance. The dryer appliance may include a second controller in operable communication with the first controller to receive one or more data signals therefrom. The second controller may be configured to initiate a drying operation. The first controller or the second controller may be configured to determine a combined load condition based on the wash control information of the plurality of discrete washing operation occurrences of the washing machine appliance. The second controller may be configured to adjust the drying operation according to the combined load condition.

Abstract: A washing machine appliance includes a sump for collecting wash fluid, a supply valve for supplying the wash fluid, a drain assembly for discharging the wash fluid from the sump, and a water level detection system for measuring sump pressures/fill levels. A controller is configured to perform an initial fill cycle and determine a first volume of wash fluid required to reach a target pressure. The drain assembly then drains the sump and the process is repeated to determine a second volume of wash fluid required to reach the target pressure. The difference between the first volume and the second volume is at least partially a result of wash fluid that the drain assembly could not discharge through the drain hose. The controller may determine that the external drain is elevated, and compensate accordingly, if a difference between the first volume and the second volume exceeds a predetermined threshold.

Abstract: A washing machine appliance includes a sump for collecting wash fluid and a water supply valve for supplying the wash fluid during a fill cycle. A controller is configured for detecting when a pressure sensor of a water level detection system is partially blocked and implementing an incremental fill process. Specifically, the controller is configured for determining a remaining fill volume for the wash fluid to reach the target fill volume, opening the supply valve to provide a fraction of the remaining fill volume into the sump and then closing the supply valve, determining that a sump pressure measured by the water level detection system has stabilized, and repeating these steps until a stopping criterion occurs, such as when a fill cycle limit or a target volume is achieved.

Abstract: A payment management system and a method of operating the same to receive payment before initiating an operating cycle of a cycle-based appliance is provided. The payment management system includes a payment device for receiving a non-cash payment from a user of the appliance. A payment processor communicates the payment to a controller of the appliance in the form of cycle credits, which may be stored in an encrypted credit storage bank. When a user attempts to initiate an operating cycle, the controller compares the available cycle credits to the number of required cycle credits, and only initiates the operating cycle if the number of available credits is equal to or exceeds the number of required credits. The payment management system may be included in any residential appliance and activated by the owner to enable pay-per-use functionality.

Abstract: A washing machine appliance and a method of selectively draining a sump of the washing machine appliance at the start of an operating cycle is provided. The method includes determining that the drain pump assembly has drained wash fluid from the sump, e.g., by checking to see whether an empty sump flag has been set in the controller. In addition, the method includes determining that a water supply valve has not been opened since the wash fluid was drained from the sump and that a sump pressure exceeds a predetermined threshold pressure, e.g., indicating that water is in sump that was not intentionally added by the water supply valve. The drain pump assembly is then operated to perform a drain cycle at the beginning of a subsequent operating cycle.
