There are provided a mobile device that is equipped with a musical composition-reproducing section and capable of curtailing the battery drain as much as possible, and a mobile device that prevents the quality of reproduced musical tones from being degraded even if the voltage level of the battery lowers. A battery voltage detector monitors an voltage level of a battery. The musical composition-reproducing section is controlled such that the number of parts of the musical composition reproduced by the musical composition-reproducing section is reduced when the monitored voltage level of the battery becomes lower than a reference value. In other forms of the invention, when the monitored voltage level of the battery becomes lower than a reference value, a first predetermined number of parts of the musical composition data are assigned to intrinsic ones of a larger second predetermined number of parts that correspond to the first predetermined number of parts of said musical composition, as well as to other ones of the second predetermined number of parts than the intrinsic ones, for reproduction of the musical composition, or the gain of a variable-gain amplifier is increased to compensate for the lowering of the volume of the reproduced parts.

A method of forming a ridge around the outer circumference of a spigot formed at an end of a pipe. A ring having a certain wall thickness in its radial direction and formed with a peripheral groove on its outer circumference is placed around the outer circumference of the spigot. Then molten metal is poured into the peripheral groove, so that the bottom of the peripheral groove and the surface of the spigot are melted, thus joining the ring and spigot together.

A scoring apparatus is constructed for evaluating a live vocal performance which is voiced by a singer along with a karaoke music synthetically reproduced from melody data. A first detector sequentially detects the live vocal performance to extract therefrom sample data which is characteristic of actual voicing of the singer. A second detector sequentially detects the melody data to extract therefrom time data representative of right progression of the karaoke music and reference data representative of right voicing which should match the karaoke music. A comparator sequentially compares the sample data and the reference data with each other to produce differential data which indicates difference between the actual voicing and the right voicing. A processor processes the differential data with reference to the time data to produce score data which represents degree of deviation of the live vocal performance voiced by the singer relative to the karaoke music.
