摘要: According to one example embodiment the placement of video distribution servers and acquisition servers in a live television IPTV network is considered to be a separate process. This process may be based, for example, on historical data, number of subscribers, subscribers' service quality, some video distribution servers may be selectively placed closer to the subscribers, i.e., at some central offices or intermediate offices, instead of at the video hub office. These local video distribution servers (those video distribution servers not located at video hub office) may selectively receive popular TV channel streams just like regular video subscribers based on the multicasting protocol from the acquisition server. Whenever a subscriber wants to switch to a channel (or recover packet loss for an on-going channel), if the channel is on the popular channel list, the service may be accomplished by the local video distribution servers. Otherwise, the service will be provided by the remote video distribution servers (those placed together with acquisition servers). This approach may facilitate faster channel change and quick packet loss recovery, decreased traffic load on the service networks, and improvement in the subscribers video packets delivery performance.

摘要: The invention provides a system, method and apparatus for controlling a mass calling event in a VoIP network. The invention provides for monitoring port traffic information on a network edge device and detecting the occurrence of a mass calling event in conjunction with a call control module. Control instructions or information may then be provisioned to network edge devices to alleviate congestion. The invention enables network edge devices to gap or provide other controls to reduce call overloading. Controls for alleviating congestion include blocking the packets, providing an announcement to the call, re-routing the traffic associated with this specific mass calling event, and reducing the quality of the service.

摘要: Disclosed are techniques for dynamic allocation of multimedia server resources among multimedia transmission services of a service provider based on predicted resource usage by each multimedia transmission service. A predictive usage model of the utilization of server resources by one or more multimedia transmission services is generated for various combinations of operating characteristics, such as time of day, day of week, programming event or content, network status, and the like. The predictive usage model can be generated using past resource utilization characteristics of the multimedia transmission services from prior time periods having the same or similar characteristics. The service provider then can use the predictive usage model to more efficiently allocate multimedia server resources among the multimedia transmission services for upcoming time periods, which may be of fixed or variable duration.

摘要: A method includes determining a first upload usage value and a first download usage value for a user account for a time interval from cell counter data retrieved from a first network device. The method includes determining a second download usage value for the user account for the time interval based on session information from a second network device. The method includes adding an upload usage value based on the first upload usage value and the second upload usage value to a cumulative upload usage value for the user account and adding a download usage value based on the first download usage value and the second download usage value to a cumulative download usage value for the user account. The method also includes sending the cumulative upload usage value and the cumulative download usage value to a billing system.

摘要: A method of interacting with data at a wireless communication device is provided. The wireless communication device has access to a first set of capabilities. Data is received at the wireless communication device via a wireless transmission. The data represents visual content that is viewable via a display device. A graphical user interface, including a delayed action selector, is provided via the display device. An input is received within a limited period of time after displaying the delayed action selector. The input is associated with a command to delay execution of an action with respect to the data until the wireless communication device has access to a second set of capabilities. The action is not supported by the first set of capabilities but is supported by the second set of capabilities. An indication of receipt of the input is provided at the wireless communication device.

摘要: Systems and methods of targeted advertisement are disclosed. In an embodiment, the method includes performing a deep packet inspection process of packet traffic within at least a portion of a communication network. The deep packet inspection process includes determining source data and destination data from the packet traffic without inspecting packet payload data. The method includes receiving aggregate demographic data of users that are associated with at least some of the packet traffic and generating an anonymous first profile of a first user based on first data acquired via the deep packet inspection process and based on the aggregate demographic data. The method also includes retrieving first user profile data from the anonymous first profile and sending the first user profile data to an advertisement system to determine a targeted advertisement based on the first user profile data. The targeted advertisement is displayed to a second user while the second user is participating in a multi-user activity with the first user.
