摘要: A mobile accident recording system (40) includes a GPS receiver-pole (41) and a computer (14) which prompts investigator to place a tip of the receiver-pole on identified position points of evidence items at an accident site to measure and record coordinates of the position points. Data including the recorded coordinates and stored database information for each evidence item are processed to reconstruct a graphical three-dimensional representation of the accident site which is displayed to the investigator from any desired advantage point selected by the investigator.

摘要: An essentially pure preparation of thermostable RNase H isolated from Thermus flavus is disclosed. In one preferable form of the invention, the RNase H is capable of biological activity after incubation at temperatures equal to or greater than 70.degree. C. for at least ten minutes. The present invention is also a method of digesting RNA polymers that are in duplex form with a DNA molecule. The method comprises exposing the duplex to the isolated thermostable RNase H. The present invention is also a genetic construct capable of expressing a thermostable RNase H.

摘要: A single configuration presentation folder is provided, enabling a user to heat laminate custom printed sheets to the face of the folder without the use of a conventional paper carrier. Portions of the folder are scored to produce folders with one or two pouches holding sales literature or pouchless versions for stand-up displays, or folders containing saddle-stitched data sheets therein or laminated data sheets mounted within a loose leaf or spiral bound cover. Various arrays of fiducials are provided for enabling easy, accurate manual positioning of variable sized insert sheets with respect to the folder edges. The fiducials may be made to disappear upon lamination or are otherwise visually non-obtrusive to the eye. The fiducials may consist of disappearing ink, readily releasable adhesive, grid lines formed in the heat activatable adhesive of the cover sheet, indentations in the folder or inks having low visual contrast. Warpage is prevented by the use of a special plastic backing sheet and a secured file using carbonless paper thwarts fraudulent compromise of critical data therein.

摘要: A coupling having a metal-to-metal seal between a male member and a female seal member, the seal being "preloaded" by means of an internal preload mechanism. The male member engages the seal member, forming the sealing relation between the two. The seal member is allowed to float, or slide, longitudinally within the bore of the female coupling member between a first, extended position and a second, compressed position. The seal member is biased by the preload mechanism into its first, extended position. A force resulting from engagement of the male member and the seal member tends to urge the seal member toward its second, compressed position and that force is opposed by the preload mechanism. The sealing relation between the male member and the seal member is thereby enhanced. An annular metal ring seal may be used to provide a sliding fluid seal between the outer circumference of the seal member and the bore of the female.

摘要: The disclosed invention is for use in extracting more accurate information from signals employed in pulse oximetry. Basically, pulse oximetry involves the illumination of arterial blood flowing in tissue with light at two wavelengths. Upon emerging from the tissue the light is received by a detector (38) that produces signals that are proportional to the intensity of the light received at each of the wavelengths. Each signal includes a slowly varying baseline component representing the attenuation .beta.(t) of light produced by bone, tissue, skin, and hair. The signals also include pulsatile components representing the attenuation .alpha.(t) produced by the changing blood volume and oxygen saturation within the finger. The signals produced by the detector (38) are converted by an analog-to-digital (A/D) converter (72) for subsequent analysis by a microcomputer (16). The microcomputer (16) extracts the following information from the signal corresponding to each wavelength. V.sub.H is determined to be the signal magnitude at a second pulse diastole. V.sub.L is, similarly, the signal magnitude at systole of the same pulse. A term .DELTA.V is identified equal in value to the difference in signal magnitudes at the adjacent systoles. Finally, values are determined for .DELTA.ts and .DELTA.tp, being the interval between an adjacent systole and diastole and the pulse period, respectively. The microcomputer (16) then determines a value for R.sub.OS in accordance with the relationship: ##EQU1## Empirically derived oxygen saturation curves are used to develop an indication of the oxygen saturation from the value of R.sub.OS computed.

摘要: A compound for detecting the presence of specific microorganisms wherein the compound is made of two molecule fragments connected with a peptide bond, one compound fragment being enzyme-specific in that the presence of an enzyme specific to the microorganisms being detected will cause the peptide bond to hydrolyze, and the other molecule fragment being 6-aminoquinalone, wherein the organism is detected by exposing the compound to fluid suspected to contain the microorganism and irradiating the thus-exposed compound with ultraviolet radiation whereby fluorescence is observed if the microorganism is present.
