Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. Some systems may support digital post-distortion (DPoD) processing at a base station. In some such systems, a user equipment (UE) may process a data message for transmission, where a resulting signal associated with the data message includes non-linear characteristics that are handled by DPoD on the receiver-side. The non-linear characteristics may cause the signal to leak into out-of-band (OOB) resources, potentially resulting in interference. In some examples, the UE may transmit the data message to the base station in a multi-user system. To support mitigation of non-linear interference on signaling by other UEs, the UE may additionally transmit pilot signals in OOB resources (e.g., in addition to in-band resources) where the non-linearity may be expected to negatively affect other communications. The base station may use the OOB pilot signals to perform channel estimation and interference mitigation.

Abstract: Techniques for wireless communications are described. A communication device may support processing digital post distortion using additional references symbols. For example, the communication device may precode a signal including at least two reference symbols for a single-layer transmission using at least two antenna ports. At least one reference symbol of the at least two reference symbols is associated with at least one data symbol of a data stream. The communication device may estimate, based on the at least two reference symbols, a nonlinearity model of at least two power amplifiers associated with the single-layer transmission, and determine an estimate of a nonlinearity factor of the precoded signal based on the estimated nonlinearity model. As a result, the communication device may eliminate or reduce the nonlinear factor of the precoded signal based on the estimated nonlinearity model of the at least two power amplifiers and the estimated channel impulse response.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A link quality characteristic may be determined for a channel having a set of channel characteristics. The determined link quality characteristic may be used to estimate the equivalent link quality characteristic for different demodulation reference signal configurations given the side information of the set of channel characteristics. A mapping defined per set of channel characteristics may be used to determine the estimated equivalent link quality characteristics from the determined link quality characteristic. A demodulation reference signal configuration may be selected based on the estimated equivalent link quality characteristics and a communication efficiency metric. The demodulation reference signal configuration that maximizes the communication efficiency metric may be selected. The selected demodulation reference signal may be signaled to a device that transmits demodulation reference signals.

Abstract: Methods related to wireless communication systems and selecting groups of user equipment (UE) devices to multiplex for multi-user multiple input and multiple output (MU-MIMO) communications are presented. A base station transmits a channel state report configuration indicating a set of one or more interference measurement resources and precoding information associated with the set of one or more interference measurement resources to a first UE of a plurality of UEs. The BS receives, from the first UE, a channel state report including interference prediction information based on the set of one or more interference measurement resources and the precoding information. The BS uses the channel state report to determine a group configuration for the plurality of UEs. Other features are also claimed and described.

A user equipment (UE) may receive a downlink control message from a base station indicating a modulation and coding scheme (MCS) associated with an uplink transmission, a number of layers associated with the uplink transmission, or both. The UE may determine to adjust (for example, reduce) a first number of bits based on the MCS, the number of layers, or both. The first number of bits may include an effective number of bits (ENOB) supported at a digital-to-analog converter (DAC) of the UE, a number of bits (NOB) supported at a transmission front end (TxFE) component of the UE, or both. The UE may transmit the uplink transmission to the base station according to the adjusted first number of bits.

Abstract: Method and apparatus are provided for power saving by detecting empty symbols. In accordance with some implementation, a UE may determine that a data channel is not allocated to it by determining that there is no beam directed to it and there was no prior resource allocation to it. The UE upon such determination may enter sleep mode until the start of the next scheduling unit. This may result in reduction in power consumption compared to entering sleep mode after demodulating and decoding the control channel.

Abstract: Certain aspects of the present disclosure are directed to a digital predistortion (DPD) device for use within a wireless transmitter that permits the use of a downstream digital-to-analog converter that operates at a clock rate close to the bandwidth of a digital baseband input signal. In some examples, a sampling rate of a digital baseband input signal is increased using an upsampler to obtain an increased rate digital input signal. Predistortion is applied to the increased rate digital input signal using a DPD device to obtain a predistorted digital signal. The sampling rate of the predistorted digital signal is then decreased using a downsampler to obtain a lower-rate predistorted digital signal with a sampling rate below the increased rate of the upsampler (e.g. close to the bandwidth of a digital baseband input signal). A low pass filter may be provided to filter out-of-band signal components from the predistorted digital signal.

In accordance with some implementations, a first device (UE or base station) estimates EVM indications for the signal and determines if the EVM indications is above a threshold. The first device may transmit the estimated TX non-linearity indications math as AM-AM, AM-PM, Volterra coefficients, and/or other performance metrics to a second device, that transmitted the signal, when it is determined that the EVM indications is above the threshold. Systems and methods for wireless communication impairment correction are also disclosed wherein, in accordance with some implementations, a first device receives estimated TX non-linearity indications such as AM-AM, AM-PM, and/or Volterra coefficients from a second device and performs non-linear correction of a transmit signal for the second receiver device based at least in part on the EVM indications. Other aspects, embodiments, and features are also claimed and described.
