Abstract: A display apparatus includes a display panel including pixels, a gate driver applying a gate signal to a gate line, a data driver applying a data voltage to a data line and a driving controller determining a mode of an input image data to a moving image mode or a static image mode according to whether the input image data is a moving image or a static image, driving the display panel in a moving image driving frequency in the moving image mode and in a static image driving frequency in the static image mode, operating the gate driver in an alternate driving mode such that the gate driver scans a first group of the gate lines in a first duration and a second group of the gate lines in a second duration and inserting a compensation frame to scan all of the gate lines when an image transition is occurred in the static image mode.

The panel driver determines a first driving frequency for the first partial panel region and a second driving frequency for the second partial panel region. When the first driving frequency and the second driving frequency are different from each other, the panel driver sets a boundary portion including a boundary between the first partial panel region and the second partial panel region, and determines a third driving frequency for the boundary portion to be between the first driving frequency and the second driving frequency.

The driving controller selectively determines a driving mode of the display apparatus between one of a normal driving mode and a low frequency driving mode, and determines a driving frequency of the display panel based on the input image data. The driving controller includes a flicker value storage storing flicker values for grayscale values of the input image data and a data remapper converting the grayscale value of the input image data to decrease a size of a maximum frequency grayscale area corresponding to a maximum driving frequency in the low frequency driving mode.

Abstract: A pixel of a display device includes a capacitor; a light emitting diode; and first, second, third, and fourth transistors. The display device has a normal frequency mode and a low frequency mode. Two electrodes of the capacitor are respectively connected to a first voltage source and a gate node. A gate electrode of the first transistor is connected to the gate node. In a hold period in the low frequency mode, both the second and third transistors receive a scan signal, the third transistor diode-connects the first transistor, the fourth transistor receives an initialization signal and transfers an initialization voltage to the gate node, the scan signal is at a first off voltage level, and the initialization signal is at a second off voltage level unequal to the first off voltage level. The cathode of the light emitting diode is connected to a second voltage source.

The power voltage generator generates the data power voltage having a high power voltage level during the writing period and a low power voltage level in at least a portion of the holding period.
