摘要： The clean surfaces of rollers in contact with photoconductive element of an image forming apparatus are cleaned of toner and other contaminants by increasing pressure between the contact surfaces of the roller and the photoconductive element during non-sensitive phases of operation, so that toner and other contaminants are transferred from the rollers to the photoconductive element. Alternatively, the rotational speed of the rollers are decreased, increased or reversed during non-sensitive phases of operation to effect transfer of toner and other contaminants to the photoconductive element for removal by the development station and/or development station. The system and cleaning method, which is particularly useful for charging, transfer and discharging rollers, are applicable to image forming apparatus wherein accumulation of toner and other contaminants decreases the quality of reproduction, require troublesome maintenance, decrease the life of the rollers requiring replacement, and prevents a compact image forming apparatus.

A recording-medium selecting unit selects either one of a non-transparent recording medium and a transparent recording medium, and conveys a selected recording medium to the conveyer path. An image selecting unit selects an image to be formed on the recording medium from among an original image and a reversed image obtained by reversing the original image. A control unit controls, based on a control signal, the recording-medium selecting unit and the image selecting unit.

摘要： In a photoreceptor for an image forming apparatus including a charging device, a relationship between a thickness “A” of a surface portion of a photosensitive layer abraded by image forming operations, a thickness “B” of a portion of the photosensitive layer ground by an operation of grinding the abraded surface of the photosensitive layer, a number of times “n” the operation of grinding the abraded surface of the photosensitive layer has been executed, and an original photosensitive layer thickness “C” of the photoreceptor is set such that a thickness “D” of a remaining portion of the photosensitive layer after having been ground which is obtained by equation: D=C−[(A+B)×n+A], is equal to or greater than a thickness of the photosensitive layer in which leakage from the charging device to the photoreceptor does not occur, so that the photoreceptor may be reused.

摘要： In an image forming apparatus, a latent image electrostatically formed on a photoconductive element is developed by a two-ingredient type developer consisting of toner and carrier. The photoconductive element has a life coincident with the life of the developer. When the photoconductive element and developer reach the end of their life, they are replaced at the same time.
