Abstract:
The invention relates to a multiple pass printing process for generating MICR-readable indicia using a MICR ink-jet ink composition with a magnetic pigment loading less than that needed to generate the nominal signal level according to the ANSI standard with single pass printing, and to a printed substrate, prepared by the process, which bears MICR-readable indicia having at least two layers of the MICR ink-jet ink composition and which demonstrates a MICR signal level of greater than or equal to the nominal signal value according to the ANSI standard.

Abstract:
A process for producing nano sized boehmite aluminas which are stable at alkaline pH values wherein an aqueous medium of a peptized boehmite alumina is treated with a water dispersible polycarboxylic acid polymer and optionally with an organic water dispersible base having a molecular weight ranging from 500 to 3000 and having no more than three basic groupings to produce a treated boehmite alumina which forms a stable sol at a pH of greater than 6, the treated boehmite alumina having a dispersed particle size of less than 500 nm in the sol.
Abstract:
Disclosed herein is a three-way call detection system and method for detecting the addition of a third party to a pre-existing telephonic connection between a first party and a second party. The system comprises: a meter for measuring the amplitude of a line voltage of a telephonic connection between a first party and a second party, said line voltage having a frequency band F1; a first filter to remove a frequency band F2 from said line voltage and output a filtered signal, said frequency band F2 being a subset of F1; a white noise generator for generating a low level white noise signal with a frequency band that corresponds to F2 and with an amplitude that is significantly below an amplitude level of the measured line voltage for frequency band F2; a coupler for combining the low level white noise signal to the filtered signal, thereby outputting an additive line voltage; a second filter that passes only a portion of the additive line voltage, said signal that passes being referred to as the band-passed signal, said band-passed signal having a frequency range F3, said frequency band F3 being a subset of F1 and being inclusive of F2; and a processor for processing the band-passed signal and determining a baseline amplitude level associated with a two-way call. The processor monitors the band-passed signal in the time domain for a shift in baseline amplitude level, which shift is associated with the addition of a third party to the telephonic connection. The white noise being added is preferably at least 3 dB below the amplitude level of the measured line voltage, more preferably at least 10 dB, more preferably at least 20 db, and most preferably 40 db below. The frequency band F2 is selected from F1 to be significantly large enough to permit more reliable detection, and yet small enough to be barely perceptible to the listener. For example, F2 may comprise the frequencies from 1-2 KHz. An F2 of 1-1.3 KHz. also functions well.
Abstract:
Three-way call detection is an important component of correctional facility telephone equipment because it helps restrict calling access by certain persons to certain restricted telephone numbers. Various three-way call detection methods exist, but all of these implementations suffer from one major limitation—the detection accuracy is not as high as is desired by the industry. The present invention improves detection accuracy, using “steganography.”Steganography involves hiding one set of data or signals within another signal or carrier in such a way that its presence is virtually imperceptible to the end recipient, and potential even the originator of the carrier signal. Television producers use steganographic methods to encode data in video signals for security, distribution monitoring, piracy-control, and other reasons. The present invention involves a device that connects to a telephone, either at the line or handset interfaces, and produces a known signal that is steganographically hidden within the user's normal voice signal. Detection equipment, residing at another location, monitors signals on telephone calls and tests for the presence of the hidden signal or data generated by the invention. Once detection is achieved, appropriate action, such as terminating or recording the call, may be taken. Improved accuracy is achieved by choosing the appropriate hidden signal(s)—ones that never occur in the course of normal conversation and never get generated by telephone company equipment. Once detected, the presence of the signal guarantees the call was made to the restricted party from a particular phone line.
Abstract:
The invention relates to an indicator system for fluid levels, including two or more optically and/or thermally conducting fibers, preferably suitable for indicating the fluid level of a lubricant in the case of piston internal combustion engines. In this case, the fibers are either provided at the end with a substance varying in optical properties under the action of heat, or contain chambers which are filled with an appropriate substance.
Abstract:
The process targets the removal of interfering materials from an aqueous fibrous material suspension, especially if this is produced from recycled paper. Thereby interfering materials, such as printing ink particles, small synthetic particles, or sticky contamination, are eliminated by flotation in a particularly advantageous manner. In accordance with the invention, the combination of low-intensity and high-intensity flotation is undertaken, whereby the low-intensity flotation generally works in the gravitational field and the high-intensity flotation in a centrifugal field.
Abstract:
Compounds of formula I are selective cyclic nucleotide phosphodiesterase (PDE) inhibitors (namely of type IV). They and pharmaceutical compositions in which they are active ingredients are useful as bronchial therapeutics, for elimination of erectile dysfunction and for treatment of disorders, particularly those of inflammatory nature. The compounds are distinguished by low toxicity, good enteral absorption (high bioavailability), a great therapeutic breadth and the absence of significant side effects.
Abstract:
A collar is provided that can be used to either drive posts into the ground or remove posts from the ground. The collar includes a first portion defining a post opening adapted for coupling about a post, and a second portion coupled to the first portion. The second portion includes a receiver adapted for receiving a tool for use in driving the post into the ground when the first portion is coupled about the post. The first portion defines an obtuse angle with respect to the second portion. The collar is configured to be positioned in a first orientation about a post when used to drive the post into the ground, and a second orientation, rotated approximately 180 degrees relative to the first orientation, when used to remove a post from the ground.
