Abstract:
Equipment for spraying a fluid such as a herbicide comprises a support tube on which is mounted a head comprising a body and a rotatable disc. Electrical supply loads and a supply hose for fluid pass to the head through the support tube. The head and the body define between them a narrow annular gap. Fluid is supplied to the disc at a position radially inwards of the gap and flows through the gap to be discharged as fine droplets from the periphery of the disc. The width of the gap is such that the fluid passing through it is wiped circumferentially so that it is distributed around the disc. This promotes an even spray of fluid from all parts of the periphery of the disc. Special shapes for the disc are proposed in order to promote the formation of small droplets of uniform size.

In spraying liquid herbicides and insecticides, a predetermined dose is delivered in each operation of a dosing apparatus. The dosing apparatus comprises a piston-and-cylinder combination supported on a hangle. The piston is biased in one direction by a spring or by pressurized propellant, and movement of the piston in this one direction causes the liquid to flow into the cylinder through a check valve. Actuation of a trigger-operated valve releases pressurized propellant into the cylinder on the opposite side of the piston (or alternatively into an auxiliary cylinder) causing movement of the piston and discharge of the liquid through a second check valve and then through a spray nozzle. The dosing apparatus includes a portable backpack structure molded of a plastics material, and is especially suited for portable operation in remote locations. The backpack is formed with a reservoir for reagent and a compartment for removably holding a pressurized propellant container.

An apparatus for spraying plant-protective agents comprises a spray head having a motor, a spray plate mounted on the driving shaft of the former and a first container which is fastened to a lance. The container is connected via a connecting pipe line with a nozzle in the vicinity of the center of the spray plate. Diametrically opposite the mouth of the connecting pipe line in the container, a supply hose is connected with the first container which hose connects the latter container with a portable second container. Thereby, the relatively small first container can be refilled from the substantially larger second container. A large area can, therefore, be sprayed without having to handle the plant-protective agent. This reduces the danger of coming into contact with the plant-protecting agent. The apparatus is particularly suitable for the spraying of insecticides and fungicides.

In connection with a land clearing saw, a sapling control substance dispensing device comprising a container for the sapling control substance, a control substance nozzle and a control substance duct leading from the container to the nozzle, this duct incorporating a manually operable valve (1) comprising a piston (4) provided with return spring (11) and a cylinder (5), with ports for the control substance entry duct (6) and exit duct (7), these ducts being provided with check valves (8,18). Within the piston has been installed an auxiliary piston (14) loaded with a spring (16) and which as the piston (4) is being moved opens or closes a needle valve (9) associated with the exit duct port.

A hand operated sprayer includes a tank containing liquid to be sprayed under pressure connected to a flexible hose with an extension tube having a nozzle at its discharge end for controlling the spray pattern. A leakproof control valve is interposed between the hose and extension tube to turn on and shut off the flow of liquid to the extension tube. Such valve embodies a valve body with the liquid flowing in at one end and out at the other end. A plunger slidable within the body can be moved either to seal off the outlet opening or to unseal such opening and permit liquid to flow through by-pass channels in the plunger. A thumb knob passes through a slot in the valve body and is affixed to the plunger for easy movement. The plunger is provided with an elliptical or rectangular channel holding an Oring to prevent leakage around the slot and thumb knob.
