A separating disk for a disk package of a centrifuge rotor has a tapering shape and extends around an axis (x) of rotation, and along a rotary symmetric surface. The separating disk is configured in such a way that it creates an interspace between the separating disk and an adjacent separating disk in the disk package, and comprises first protrusions extending outwardly from the rotary symmetric surface and second protrusions extending inwardly from the rotary symmetric surface. Each first and second protrusion defines a contact zone adapted to abut the adjacent separating disk. The contact zone of the first protrusions is displaced in relation to the contact zone of the second protrusions. The first and second protrusions are provided after each other in the peripheral direction of the separating disk. The tapering shape and the protrusions of the separating disks have been provided though pressing of a blank of a material against a tool part having a shape corresponding to the tapering shape of the protrusions of the pressed separating disk.

In substantial volume production operations involving hot blow forming or hot stamping of aluminum alloy sheet workpieces, debris largely comprised of particles of aluminum alloy material adheres to critical forming surfaces of the heated steel tools. This debris mars forming surfaces and causes defects in aluminum alloy parts formed against them. Such aluminum-rich debris may be reactively transformed to change its adherent properties and removed from tool surfaces without removing the heated tool from production. In one embodiment, a hot sacrificial magnesium sheet may be formed on the tool(s) to alloy with aluminum debris and carry it from the forming surface.

A method is provided for forming complex structures from aluminum alloys, particularly from naturally hard AlMg alloys, naturally hard AlMgSc alloys and/or age-hardenable AlMgLi alloys. The method, in a simple manner by means of as few process steps as possible, forms complex structures from the alloys such that they almost assume their final shape without any significant spring-back. Simultaneously, the loss of material is to be kept as low as possible. This is achieved by means of the following steps: elastic forming of a component to be formed into a defined contour under the effect of external force; and heating-up of the elastically formed component to a temperature higher than the temperature required for a creep formation and relaxation of stresses of the alloy, so that the component is formed while retaining the contour.

The component is forced against the shaped surface, via a reusable intermediate plate. A method is disclosed for forming sheet metal articles, such as automotive body panels, having significant curvatures in front-to-back and side-to-side directions. Opposing, complementary, preforming and final shape forming tools are used in a single press. A sheet of superplastically or quick plastically formable sheet metal alloy, heated to a forming temperature, is first stretched against the preform tool by the final shape tool to form a preform that has experienced most of the metal stretching required for the final part shape. The preform is removed from the preform tool and formed against the opposing, final shape tool with pressurized gas to obtain the final sheet metal part shape.
