摘要： A vehicle towing mechanism adapted to be utilized in conjunction with a truck for towing a wheeled vehicle. The towing mechanism includes an elongate main support member which is pivotally connected to the truck and extends rearwardly therefrom. The main support member has vertical, spaced side walls formed of a prestressed high tensile metal and is constructed to have an upwardly bowed configuration; such configuration is retained by an upper wall fixedly attached thereto. A vertical riser member is adapted to be vertically slidable relative to the truck rear end and is connected to the main support member to inhibit lateral movement. The main support member is connected to an apparatus which supports laterally spaced wheels of the vehicle and includes wheel-engaging devices for each wheel. Each device has a rotating section and a fixed section. Wheel retainers are adapted to secure the wheels within respective devices and securely lock the wheel-supporting apparatus in a selectively fixed position. A support cable is adapted to be operatively connected to a tow truck winch and to the main support member such that the vehicle towing mechanism and the vehicle to be towed are simultaneously lifted upon operation of the truck winch.

摘要： Disclosed is a towing vehicle or wrecker of the type in which a winch drawn cable is attached to the trailing portion of an auto or truck to be towed and a carrier member ascends an inclined track elevating the leading portion of the load as the cable is winched in. The apparatus is characterized by pivotal mounting of the inclined member with a hydraulic positioning cylinder for aiding in acquisition of a load, such as a disabled auto which is ditched or laterally displaced from the wrecker. The pivoted, inclined member also facilitates cornering of the wrecker and load when in motion.

摘要： Vehicle lifting and towing apparatus utilizes a pair of frames, each pivotably mounted to a vehicle, and having their distal ends interconnected by cable means. In one embodiment, rotation of one frame causes rotation of the other. In that embodiment, a winch remote from the frames is coupled to one of the frames, so that winching of the winch cable causes both frames to rotate about their respective axes. Means are provided in association with the other of the frames to secure that frame to a vehicle to be towed. In another embodiment, one frame is fixed in a generally vertical orientation, and a winch is mounted on that frame. The second frame is caused to rotate by operation of the winch.

摘要： A demountable hitch for quickly facilitating the engagement, lift and tow of one end of a vehicle which includes a transverse tow bar pivotally connected to a truck and a mounting rib upstanding thereon. The rib is demountably connected to a central portion of the tow bar and adapted for simple interlocking engagement of the towed vehicle rearwardly of the bumper thereon. The rib is encapsulated in a resilient material for increasing the frictional engagement with the bumper or vehicle frame to facilitate immediate towing while reducing the noise associated with the initial hook-up. In this manner a parked vehicle can be hitched and towed in a minimal amount of time and with a minimum of noise, which is particularly advantageous in times of emergency.

摘要： A tow bar which is connectable to a front wheel drive vehicle for maintaining the front wheels of the vehicle in an elevated position above a roadway while the vehicle is being towed behind another vehicle to minimize wear on the universal joints and transmission of the towed vehicle. The tow bar comprises a tongue portion having an upwardly inclined tongue extension connector secured to the front end thereof and a suspension support beam secured to the opposite end thereof. The tongue extension connector is adapted to receive a tongue extension piece having a trailer coupling secured to the outer end thereof which is connectable to a conventional coupling hitch ball on a trailer hitch. The suspension support beam has suspension support pins moveably secured to opposite ends thereof adapted to be actuated to engage the front wheel suspension mechanism of a vehicle for maintaining the front wheels of the vehicle elevated above the roadway while the vehicle is being towed.

摘要： A wrecker assembly is combined with a pick up truck or cab and chassis having a frame, a rear axle, a cab and/or a floor, side walls, and a battery. The wrecker assembly comprises a sub-frame assembly mounted upon the floor or frame and is secured to the frame. The boom including a pair of forwardly diverging side plate ends is pivotally mounted upon the sub-frame adjacent the cab. A tower mounting plate spans the boom side plates and projects thereabove. A hydraulic power cylinder including a reciprocal piston rod is pivotally mounted upon the sub-frame assembly with the end of the piston rod pivotally connected to the tower plate at its upper end. A power pack including a motor, pump, valve and a fluid reservoir is mounted upon the boom and a pair of flexible conduits respectively interconnect the pump valve and opposite ends of the cylinder. An electrical circuit includes a manual "forward and reverse" switch interconnecting the battery with the motor and valve for selective raising and lowering of the boom.

摘要： Tow rig for vehicles, particularly for heavy-duty tractors, comprising an A-frame to be mounted in a substantially vertical plane, with lower leg connecting with the ''''fifth wheel'''' of a retrieving tractor. The two legs of the A-frame are pivotally secured together at the apex. Means are provided for tieing the A-frame to the tractor frame. A cable with winch control serves to quickly bring a bumper member in position for attachment to a vehicle to be towed. Power means are conveniently mounted on the rig and, acting on the upper leg of the A-frame, raises and lowers the front end of the vehicle to be towed. With relaxation of power the leg rests on pin and cross bar of the A-frame. There additionally is provided means secured between A-frame and bumper member to accommodate the rig to the particular size of the vehicle to be towed.
