Abstract: A transport unit for transporting cargo, which cargo is a car, a car body or other cargo. A transport unit comprises a lift and transfer apparatus, which is placed inside said transport unit, arranged during the loading of the transport unit to extend outside the transport unit, to grip to a transfer platform, on top of which the cargo is placed, to lift said transfer platform that is outside the transport unit inside the transport unit, and to transfer the transfer platform to its place in the transport unit, as well as during the unloading of the transport unit to transfer the transfer platform outside the transport unit. In an embodiment the transport unit is a cargo container, and a trailer is used for transport in an embodiment. The system utilizing cargo containers enables transporting cars from the assembly plant directly to the retail dealer.

Abstract: A car type conveyor includes a guide rail 3 extending along one edge of a running path. The running path is fitted with a friction driver including a frictional wheel 32. A runner 2 is guided by and moves along the guide rail 3. The runner 2 has a frictional surface 29 formed on it for compressive contact with the frictional wheel 32. A carriage 1 includes wheels 8 and 9 and moves along the running path. The runner 2 and one of the right and left sides of the carriage 1 are connected together in such a manner that the top of the runner 2 is higher than the position at which the carriage 1 supports a body. Abstract: The present invention is directed to a carrier and conveyor system that permits the carrier to be driven by at least two different types of conveyors or drive assemblies, including a power and free conveyor. The system includes a plurality of carriers, first and second areas, a power and free conveyor assembly, and a friction drive assembly. Abstract: A system for transporting articles along a treatment path in a treatment area. The conveyor system includes a conveyor and a plurality of pendulums. The conveyor includes first and second drive segments laterally spaced from and parallel to one another. Abstract: A method and apparatus are disclosed for loading a container with cars. A car loading apparatus includes a box shaped frame having a rectangular base frame, side frames, end frames and a top frame. It is assembled outside the container. Two cars are loaded onto the frame in two tiers, one on the base frame and the other on the top frame. The upper car is lashed to the frame to compress its suspension springs to such an extent that its top is lower than the upper frame of the entrance of the container. Rollers are mounted on the bottom of the box frame so that the frame thus loaded with two cars can be pushed into the container with human hands. Alternatively, the car-loading frame may be formed of a rectangular base frame and two gate-shaped gantry frames fixedly or removably mounted on the base frame.

Abstract: A system for loading and transporting wheeled vehicles on a transporting vehicle, such as a ship or rail car, comprises supporting a plurality of wheeled vehicles on each of a plurality of frames in vertically-spaced relation to each other and then inserting the respective frames and their supported vehicles matingly into respective enclosures. The enclosures, with their frames and vehicles inside, are loaded onto the transporting vehicle by compactly stacking the enclosures one atop the other in weather-exposed postions, the enclosures nevertheless serving to protect the vehicles from external hazards.
