摘要:
An improved fabric hydroenhancement method provides for inducing turbulence in a fluid flow in a hydroenhancing manifold and applying the turbulent fluid flow to impinge on a row of orifices of a jet strip in a manifold, such that jet streams issuing from the jet orifices at an output end of the manifold are formed with a constant state of fluctuation in their cross-sectional shape, direction, and structure. This results in the jet streams distributing their delivered energy over constantly changing impact areas on the fabric, whereby more of the delivered energy is converted into enhancement energy for hydroenhancing the fabric. The turbulent hydroenhancing method is also found to obtain a significant reduction in fabric shrinkage, and also eliminates the generation of interference patterns in the fabric. Turbulence is induced by positioning a baffle below the distribution element in the manifold with its lower end in close proximity to the row of jet orifices. Various types of baffle designs may be used. A refined baffle design has a solid center portion and flow paths around its sides to smooth out uneven fluid flow caused by flow distribution structures in the manifold upstream of the jet orifices.

A topographical support member and a method of forming a topographical support member for use in producing nonwoven fabrics with raised portions, especially intaglio and slub type portions. The topographical support member comprises a body having a top surface including a first micro-sized topographical pattern and a pattern of apertures extending through the body. At least one macro-sized region recessed below the top surface is provided. The micro-sized pattern produces a background portion of the fabric and the macro-sized recessed regions produce the raised portions of the fabric. Multiple levels may be provided in the macro-sized region to produce multiple level raised portions.

A jet bar on a device for producing streams of liquid for jet interweaving of the fibers of a fiber web guided along the bar includes an upper part that extends over the operating width of the fiber web and a lower part fastened thereto in a liquid-tight manner. In the upper part and extending over its length, a pressure chamber is located which receives liquid that is under pressure, endwise for example. Parallel thereto, with an intermediate partition, a pressure distribution chamber is provided which is connected with the pressure chamber by throughflow holes for liquid extending through the intermediate partition. A jet sheet with holes for forming jets of liquid is mounted in a liquid-tight fashion on the lower part. In order to achieve a better equalization of the pressurized fluid entering the pressure distribution chamber, the pressure distribution chamber terminates in an area opposite the liquid throughflow holes in a slot that is narrow by comparison with the cross section of the pressure distribution chamber, said slot terminating close to or in proximity to holes in the jet sheet. The jet sheet is mounted in a liquid-tight fashion by means of a sealing O-ring. This O-ring can be replaced without disassembling the lower part from the upper part.

Method of forming a topographical support member for use in producing nonwoven fabrics such as tricot nonwoven fabrics is accomplished by focusing a laser beam so that the focal point is below the top surface of a starting workpiece. The laser beam is used to drill a predetermined pattern of tapered apertures. The pattern of tapered apertures forms the cluster of peaks and valleys surrounding each aperture on the top surface of the resulting support member.

A low fluid pressure dual-sided fiber entangling method and apparatus for manufacturing a nonwoven fabric. A fibrous starting material whose individual fibers are capable of movement relatively to one another under the influence of applied fluid forces is subjected to coacting opposed fluid streams while being confined between a flexible screen belt and a rigid perforated hollow drum. The fibers of the starting material are entangled under the effect of fluid forces applied in opposition, forming a reticular network which defines a pattern of blind holes, each hole extending transversely to the fabric plane and containing a protuberant fiber packing at a closed end thereof.

Process and apparatus for producing apertured or non-apertured nonwoven fabric wherein fibrous web is introduced onto support means and treated with high velocity water streams jetted from above. The non-apertured nonwoven fabric may be produced by fiber entangling treatment on a smooth surfaced plate including a plurality of drainage holes as first support means or by further fiber entangling treatment performed on water impermeable second support means after the fiber entangling treatment performed on the first support means. The apertured nonwoven fabric may be produced by, after the fiber entangling treatment on the first support means, using, instead of the second support means, another second support means consisting of a smooth surfaced plate provided with a plurality of projections and drainage holes so that individual fibers of the fibrous web are deflected by water streams jetted from above the fibrous web aside towards zones of the surface defined by each pair of adjacent projections while entangling these individual fibers with each other.

The invention involves an injector which propels a curtain of water through perforations in a rotating cylinder. The curtain of water hits a non-woven fiber sheet at an angle, and the splashback is collected in a suction chamber. The width of the curtain of water is adjustable, and self-cleaning of the injector can take place while the machine is in operation. The invention is used for the production of perforations or embossed designs on non-woven fabric whether the fiber sheet is produced by the dry method or the wet method.

A process and device useful therein for hydraulically entangling the fibers in a fiber batt to form a fiber-entangled base sheet for a non-woven fabric, and a uniformly and lightly fiber-entangled, base sheet formed by the process. The process includes applying at least one liquid curtain against the fiber batt while it is supported on a moving, apertured backing screen. The liquid curtain is uniform in width throughout its length and substantially non-diverging as it is delivered from a source of liquid under a pressure sufficient to effect entanglement of the fibers in the batt. Preferably, the pressure is at least about 200 p.s.i.g., and the maximum divergence of the curtain is about 4 degrees. The device for applying the liquid curtain includes first and second members and means for securing the members together to form a chamber therebetween in which the liquid is contained and to form a slot in communication from the chamber to the exterior of the device. The slot has a substantially uniform width along its length and preferably also a uniform depth. The securing means are adjustable, so that the width of the slot can be varied, but, once the members are secured together, the width of the slot remains constant as the curtain is delivered from the chamber, through the slot, and against the fiber batt. The uniformly and lightly fiber-entangled, base sheet is non-apertured and non-streaked and has an entanglement frequency of less than about 20, an entanglement completeness of less than about 0.5 and an internal bond value of less than about 0.1.
