Abstract:
A walking-beam furnace in the heating of metal bodies without bending in which at least a pair of walking beams straddle a stationary beam whose width is greater than that of the walking beams. The stationary beam is formed with a plurality of rectangular recesses opening at a support surface of the stationary beam upon which the metal bodies come to rest and communicate from below with a source of combustion gases so that the hot gas rises to contact the bottom of the metal bodies and the bottom of the metal bodies is subject to heating by radiation from the walls of the recess which converges downwardly to a duct supplying the hot gas. The width of the recess is greater than the widths of the portions of the fixed beam laterally flanking, while the length of the recesses is greater than its width.
Abstract:
Slabs can be uniformly heated by the use of a side-burner type heating furnace having flame length-variable type burners in the side walls, each burner consisting of an inner air flow nozzle, a fuel gas nozzle and an outer air flow nozzle arranged concentrically, and by adjusting the ratio of the flow rate of air passing through the inner air flow nozzle to the flow rate of air passing through the outer air flow nozzle depending upon the variation of the flow rate of fuel gas.
Abstract:
A furnace workpiece-support system has at least one horizontal workpiece-support tube through which a fluid coolant is circulated and at least one vertical support post or tube connected at its upper end at a joint to the horizontal tube and having a blind lower end. A tubular pressure-alteration body is provided in this joint and has an intake mouth directed upstream and an outlet mouth directed downstream and of different flow cross section from the intake mouth. A flow diversion element, either a flat plate or a pipe, extends downwardly from the pressure-alteration body into the vertical tube to conduct into this tube fluid coolant diverted at the pressure-alteration body.
Abstract:
A method for sealing and cooling the component slot members between the stationary hearth and movable beam or beams in walking beam furnaces by injecting air into the slot in such a manner that the air jets create a stagnation plane within the slot to maintain an equilibrium with the furnace pressure while impinging on the beam members and simultaneously cooling it.
Abstract:
A discharge mechanism is provided for a furnace having means to convey work therethrough wherein the work is removed from the furnace by contact with a supporting member having an inclined plane. An example of such a furnace is a walking beam furnace wherein the end portion of the stationary rails of the walking beam furnace is inclined downwardly and a vertically moving member is provided which contacts the work and causes it to move down the incline through the force of gravity.
Abstract:
A furnace construction for the heat treating of metal materials and including a conveying apparatus that provides for step-bystep movement of the metal materials through the heat treating chamber of the furnace construction, the drive for the conveying apparatus comprising a walking beam assembly. Sintering of various kinds of materials including metal compacts may be accomplished by the furnace construction and since treatment of the materials at relatively high temperatures is necessary during the heat treating cycle, a special sealing structure is provided for preventing contamination of the high temperature zone during sintering of the materials and the cooling thereof after the sintering cycle.
