摘要:
A method for producing low-PMD fiber, in which a glass fiber is drawn from an optical fiber perform by a tractor which pulls such optical fiber from said perform; subsequent to said tractor pulling the fiber is twisted about its axis to increase the magnitude of twist which is imparted to said fiber. The fiber is then wound onto a fiber storage spool such that at least a portion of the twist imparted to said optical fiber is retained while said fiber is wound on said spool.

A method of manufacturing an optical fibre, which method comprises the steps of: i) providing an optical preform, ii) heating one end of said optical preform, iii) drawing an optical fibre from the heated end of the optical preform, iv) cooling the optical fibre thus drawn in step iii), v) winding the cooled optical fibre onto a reel, with a change in the tension buildup being introduced into the optical fibre in step iv), resulting in variations in the refractive index of the optical fibre as a function of the longitudinal position.

The invention relates to an chromatic dispersion-compensating optical fibre in the S-band, for use in compensating for the chromatic dispersion of either a standard SMF optical fibre or of an NZ-DSF optical fibre, carrying an optical signal in the spectral band in use, which is the S-band extending from 1460 nm to 1530 nm. The chromatic dispersion-compensating optical fibre in the S-band has a wavelength corresponding to the global chromatic dispersion minimum, which is situated outside the spectral band in use, that is to say outside the S-band.

The optical fiber has a dispersion value at a 1.55 μm-wavelength band, of 6 to 24 ps/nm/km, and satisfies A>3×D+40, where D represents a dispersion value (ps/nm/km) at a central wavelength of a 1.55 μm-wavelength band, and A represents an effective core area (μm2). The optical transmission line for transmitting an optical signal, which includes the optical fiber is provided as well.
