摘要: A method for predicting an optical fiber performance parameter includes measuring N values for the optical fiber performance parameter at N stages during manufacture or installation of a first optical fiber, where N is an integer. A first set of correlation values is generated representing shifts in the measured optical fiber performance parameter values at the N stages. An installed value of the optical fiber performance parameter is estimated for a second optical fiber based on the first set of generated correlation values and at least one measured optical fiber performance parameter value associated with the second optical fiber.

摘要: An optical fiber producing method and apparatus for producing an optical fiber in which, in a path where an optical fiber is reeled out from a supply bobbin, taken up by take-up means, and wound by a winding bobbin, twists are alternately imparted to the optical fiber by a twist imparting portion. A zone where a high tension load is allowed to be applied to the optical fiber without affecting winding tension of the winding bobbin is disposed, a twist is imparted in the zone, and, when tension immediately before the twist imparting portion is indicated by T (g), a free path length is indicated by L, a twisting amount is indicated by R (turns/m), and a and b are constants, the tension and free path length by which the twisting amount R approximated by “R=a×T×Lb” is made “2” or more are set.

摘要: An optical fiber including an optical fiber wire is provided. The optical fiber wire has a bare optical fiber portion, to which first elastic torsion is applied, and a coating layer, which coats the bare optical fiber portion and which is formed of curable resin and generates elastic repulsion against resilience occurring in the bare optical fiber portion so that the first elastic torsion applied to the bare optical fiber portion is held. Second elastic torsion is applied to the entire optical fiber configured to include the bare optical fiber portion and the coating layer.

摘要: An apparatus for producing a low-PMD optical fiber having a furnace for melting a lower portion of an optical preform; a traction device for pulling an optical fiber from the lower portion of an optical preform; a spinning device for imparting a substantially constant and unidirectional spin to the optical fiber as it is pulled, which causes the fiber to undergo an elastic torsion; a winding device for winding the optical fiber onto a reel; and a twisting device for imparting to the spun optical fiber a unidirectional twist in a direction opposite the elastic torsion, so as to control the residual twist in the optical fiber. A process for producing the fiber, an optical fiber and a cable are also provided.

摘要: A method is provided for predicting an installed performance parameter of an optical fiber cable. The method includes obtaining a measurement indicative of a value of the performance parameter at a first moment in time. A measurement indicative of a value of the performance parameter at a second moment in time may then be obtained. A first correlation may then be determined between the measurement at the first moment in time and the measurement at the second moment in time. A value of the performance parameter at the second moment in time may then be estimated based upon the measurement at the first moment in time in combination with the first correlation, the first correlation being based upon observations of a manner in which the performance parameter varies over time for at least a second optical fiber.

摘要: The present invention relates to a light source apparatus having a structure for stably supplying broadband pulsed light having a wavelength spectrum with an excellent flatness over a wide band. The light source apparatus employs, as a seed light source, a short-pulsed light source having such an excellent output pulse characteristic that the frequency bandwidth extending until the output pulse drops by 10 dB or 20 dB from a peak is 5 THz or more. The light source apparatus also includes a broadband light producing fiber having an optical characteristic suitable for combining with the short-pulsed light source. The broadband light producing fiber inputs pulsed light from the pulsed light source, and produces the broadband pulsed light by utilizing a nonlinear optical phenomenon. This structure yields broadband pulsed light having such a wavelength spectrum that a region whose power fluctuation is suppressed to 6 dB or less extends over 100 nm or more.
