Abstract: A vehicle includes a sprung mass including a cabin coupled to a chassis, tractive assemblies each including at least one tractive element, springs coupling the tractive elements to the sprung mass, each spring imparting an upward force on the sprung mass, load sensors each configured to provide a signal indicative of the force imparted by one of the springs, and a controller operatively coupled to the load sensors. The controller is configured to determine a weight of the sprung mass using the signals from the load sensors and monitor at least one operational condition of the vehicle. The controller is configured to determine whether or not to disable determination of the weight based on the at least one operational condition.

Abstract: A device for measuring strain on the exterior of a pipe includes a body comprising a top portion and a bottom portion; one or more elastically deformable members coupled between the top portion and the bottom portion, wherein each of the one or more elastically deformable members have an outer contact surface and an inner non-contact surface. One or more sensors are disposed on the inner non-contact surface of one or more of the elastically deformable members. The sensors, during use, provide data that can be used to determine changes in strain on the exterior of the pipe. In another embodiment, one or more sensors are embedded in, or attached to, a casing disposed in a wellbore. In an embodiment, a method includes pressurizing or depressurizing the wellbore with a fluid and measuring the strain induced in the casing (or in an open wellbore) in response to this change in wellbore pressure.

Abstract: A controller is provided for interactive classification and recognition of an object in a scene using tactile feedback. The controller includes an interface configured to transmit and receive the control, sensor signals from a robot arm, gripper signals from a gripper attached to the robot arm, tactile signals from sensors attached to the gripper and at least one vision sensor, a memory module to store robot control programs, and a classifier and recognition model, and a processor to generate control signals based on the control program and a grasp pose on the object, configured to control the robot arm to grasp the object with the gripper. Further, the processor is configured to compute a tactile feature representation from the tactile sensor signals and to repeat gripping the object and computing a tactile feature representation with the set of grasp poses, after which the processor, processes the ensemble of tactile features to learn a model which is utilized to classify or recognize the object as known or unknown.

Abstract: Standing desks, such as fixed work surfaces or height-adjustable desks or computer/workstation supports, provide relief from computer or other desk work that might otherwise force a user to remain seated. However, concerns about utilization and comfort are points of resistance to standing desks. A “smart” pressure sensing mat is provided that may provide additional cushioning and comfort as well as a source of data input for record keeping, usage verification, user identification, and control signals. Signals may be utilized to report data (e.g., utilization, user operations, functions, etc.) and/or control components (e.g., trigger a standing desk to rise for standing use or lower for seated use, activate lights, etc.).

Abstract: Disclosed herein are electronic devices having a deformable surfaces through which a user can provide inputs to the device by applying a force such as a pinch or a squeeze. A particular embodiment is an earpiece with the deformable surface part of an elongate section extending from an earbud. The deformable surface includes an incompressible hyperelastic material and a pressure sensor. The pressure sensor includes a pressure sensing element and a void defined between the pressure sensing element and the incompressible hyperelastic material. An applied force is transferred by the incompressible hyperelastic material to compress the void and change an internal pressure thereof. The changed pressure is detected by the pressure sensor, and can result in changed operation of the electronic device.

Abstract: The invention relates to an optical sensor device comprising a reference body, an optical fiber including an intrinsic fiber optic sensor, and a hydraulic transmission system. The hydraulic transmission system is connected to the reference body such that an input portion and an output portion are movable with respect to the reference body. The optical fiber is connected with a first connecting portion to the output portion of the hydraulic transmission system and with a second connecting portion to an element exterior to the hydraulic transmission system. The intrinsic sensor is positioned between the first and second connecting portion. The input portion is arranged for receiving an input action and the hydraulic transmission system is arranged for converting the input action to a sensing action applied to the optical fiber by the output portion such as to modify strain in the optical fiber dependent on said input action.
