摘要: An improved voice activity detection system and method is provided for use in speakerphones and other voice activated systems. To facilitate switching between various operating modes, the voice activity detection scheme utilizes a new voice energy term which is based on an integral of the absolute value of a derivative of a speech signal. Voice activity is detected during a silence mode by comparing a first ratio of a current voice energy value to a background noise value with a voice activity threshold value. Voice activity is detected when the first ratio is greater than the voice activity threshold value. Another step involves identifying a direction of the voice activity during a transmit and receive mode by comparing a second ratio of a transmit path voice energy value to a receive path voice energy value with a transmit threshold value and a receive threshold value. When the second ratio is greater than the transmit threshold value, voice activity is present in the transmit path. Similarly, when the second ratio is less than the receive threshold value, then voice activity is present in the receive path. Following the detection of voice activity in one of the paths, the speakerphone or voice activated system begins transitioning to the applicable mode by gradually suppressing the signal in the other path according to the value of the second ratio.

摘要: An audio amplifier for providing a power boost for telephone-sourced audio signals that drive one or more paging speakers employs a class D amplifier and a state variable feedback network, which monitors voltage and current levels of an audio output filter to which the paging speakers are coupled, so as to adjust the operation of the amplifier circuit, as necessary, to compensate variations in the speaker loading of the audio output filter. The class D amplifier includes a pulse width modulator, which controls the switching of a power H-bridge-configured switching circuit. The switching circuit sources and sinks current with respect to the paging speaker load. The output of the power bridge switching circuit is a high energy square wave-type signal, which is filtered in a downstream audio filter to remove the switching transients and preserve the desired voice paging signal for application to the paging speakers. The state variable feedback network monitors variations in current flow and voltage at a plurality of circuit locations of the audio filter circuit and sums the monitored variations to produce an error signal, which is fed back to the input of the voice paging amplifier circuit and combined with the audio input signal.

摘要: A method for controlling a voice-controlled voice direction recognition unit for a digital telephone station, which can be connected to termination units having different hybrid attenuations. The method prevents self-interruption in the transmission side due to an excessively low hybrid attenuation. This is achieved by providing a counter unit that identifies the switching occurrences of the voice direction recognition per time unit and, when a predetermined number is exceeded, that causes the voice direction recognition unit to connect an auxiliary attenuation element into every voice channel. The method can be utilized in digital telephone stations whose termination units are located in an appertaining switching system.

摘要: A voice enhancer system for a car includes a pair of microphones positioned adjacent to the front seats of the car, and a pair of loudspeakers positioned adjacent to the rear seats. The microphones are connected to the loudspeakers, via an amplifier/electrical conditioning unit, by electrical wiring positioned behind the car's upholstery. The conditioning unit, which includes filters and a frequency shifter is adjusted to prevent acoustical `howl-around` within the enclosure of the car. For voice enhancement from the rear to the front of the car, microphones may be positioned adjacent to the rear seats, and loudspeakers may be positioned adjacent to the front seats, these components being connected together, via a second amplifier/electrical conditioning unit, by electrical wiring.

摘要: A multiplexed data channel telephone system comprising a master station (221) and one or more remote stations (222) is disclosed. Each station (221, 222) is bridged, in a parallel electrical connection, onto a wire-pair (201) that extends from the stations to a telephone switching system. Each station (221, 222) includes a voiceband line interface (110, 310) for connecting to the wire-pair (201) at voiceband frequencies, and a radio frequency line interface (700, 800) for connecting to the wire-pair (201) at radio frequencies. Each station further includes multiplexer and demultiplexer equipment (500, 600) for frequency shifting a data channel between baseband and rf. Amplitude modulation and half-duplex transmission are used in the data channel. Telephone status and control information, including ringing and answer control, are exchanged between controllers (160, 360) via the data channel. Remote stations (222) minimize the amount of equipment required by using the data channel to control common equipment at the master station (221) that interacts with incoming telephone lines (201, 202).

摘要: An improved speakerphone (120 and 130 in FIG. 1) for radio and landline telephones is described. The improved speakerphone (120 and 130) includes a microphone (102 and 132), a speaker (104 and 134) and unique control circuitry (106 and 136). The control circuitry of speakerphone (200 in FIG. 2) interfaces a microphone (250) to a transmit signal (220) and speaker (260) to a receive signal (222) of a duplex communication path, such as a radio channel or telephone line. An audio switch (212) opens or closes the speaker audio path in response to a control signal (224) from control logic (230), and another audio switch (202) opens or closes the microphone audio path in response to the binary complement of the control signal (224). Transmit and receive signal detectors (206 and 207), each includes a logarithmic amplifier (240), an envelope detector (241), a smoothing filter (245 ), a valley detector (242), a summer (243) and a comparator (244) for detecting the presence of audio signals in environments that may be subject to high background noise. Binary output signals from the transmit and receive signal detectors (206 and 207) are applied to control logic (230) which generates the control signal (224) for opening and closing the transmit and receive audio paths. The control logic (230 in FIG. 3) includes delay circuitry (316 and 318) and logic circuitry (304, 306, 308, 310, 312 and 314) for setting and resetting a flip-flop (302) storing the control signal (224). The control logic (230) changes the state of the control signal flip-flop (302) for switching the audio path between the micorphone and speaker when audio signals from the presently closed audio path have not been detected for a time interval determined by the delay circuitry (316 and 318) and audio signals thereafter are detected on the other audio path.
