摘要: A quantitative pulse count (event detection) algorithm with linearity to high count rates is accomplished by combining a high-speed, high frame rate camera with simple logic code run on a massively parallel processor such as a GPU or a FPGA. The parallel processor elements examine frames from the camera pixel by pixel to find and tag events or count pulses. The tagged events are combined to form a combined quantitative event image.

摘要: An entanglement-enhanced interferometry system includes a source of correlated photons configured to two-mode squeezed vacuum (TMSV), a polarizing splitter or off-axis polarizing coupler configured to separate the correlated photons into two paths, a polarization control device configured to rotate polarization of photons on one of the two paths relative to the photons on the other of the two paths in order to make photons indistinguishable, a coupler configured to entangle the indistinguishable photons, and a polarization maintaining fiber-based interferometer configured to use the entangled photons as the input state. The source of correlated photons might be a nonlinear element such as a periodically poled element such as a lithium niobate bulk crystal or waveguide. The interferometer might be a Mach-Zehnder or a common path configuration. The coupler might be a 50:50 coupler or a polarizing coupler 45 degrees off-axis.

摘要: A compact, low power cryo-cooler for cryogenic systems capable of cooling gas to at least as low as 2.5 K. The cryo-cooler has a room temperature compressor followed by filtration. Within the cryostat, four counterflow heat exchangers precool the incoming high-pressure gas using the outflowing low-pressure gas. The three warmest heat exchangers are successively heat sunk to three stages of a pulse tube to absorb residual heat from the slight ineffectiveness of the heat exchangers. The pulse tube cold head also absorbs loads from instrumentation leads and radiation loads. The pulse tube stages operate at around 80 K, 25 K, and 10 K. The entire system—cryo-cooler, drive and control electronics, and detector instrumentation, fits in a standard electronics rack mount enclosure, and requires around 300 W or less of power.

The plasmon Casimir cavities can drive charge carriers from or to an electronic device adjoining the plasmon Casimir cavity by modifying the distribution of zero-point energy-driven plasmons on one side of the electronic device to be different from the distribution of zero-point energy-driven plasmons on the other side of the electronic device. The electronic device can exhibit a structure that permits transport or capture of carriers in very short time intervals, such as in 1 picosecond or less.

摘要: Various embodiments of the present technology use low-frequency magnetic signals for communication and location applications. Compared to the case of traditionally used radio-frequency electromagnetic signals, their advantage in the presence of strong signal attenuation is in the extended spatial range. Some embodiments use an optically pumped atomic magnetometer operated as a sensor to achieve high detection sensitivity. The spatial range can be extended to hundreds of meters when noise is suppressed by the use of the available sensor sensitivity. In some embodiments, a one-channel spread-spectrum signal processing technique can be used to eliminate the systematic fluctuations coming from power grid (or another source) harmonics and reduce the ambient noise by averaging uncorrelated fluctuations from the environment.

摘要: Thermal shift assays (TSAs) have been extensively used to study thermodynamics of proteins and provide an efficient means to assess protein-ligand binding or protein-protein interaction. However, existing TSAs have limitations such as time consuming, labor intensive, or low sensitivity. Here, an acousto-thermal shift assay (A-TSA) is disclosed and is believed to be the first ultrasound enabled TSA which can provide a real-time analysis of protein thermodynamic stability. A-TSA couples unique acoustic mechanisms to achieve protein unfolding, concentration, and measurement on a single microfluidic chip within minutes. Compared to conventional TSA methods, A-TSA provides an ultra-fast (at least 30 times faster), highly sensitive (7-34 folds higher), and label -free monitoring of protein-ligand interactions and protein stability finding applications for protein analysis in biology, medicine and fast diagnosis.

摘要: Disclosed is a diagnostic panel of methylated genomic loci encoding microRNA (mgmiR) markers that demonstrated 90% sensitivity and 100% specificity in the detection of head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). These results represent the first use of quantitative MS-PCR for the detection of mgmiRs. In addition, this panel demonstrates the ability to detect hypermethylation in the adjacent mucosa of cancer patients, suggesting its utility in early detection. This panel is also capable of detecting cancer by using saliva, blood and FNA tissue samples.
