Abstract:
A boat anchor having a shank which is pivotally movable relative to the other elements is designed to provide three stop positions defining terminal positions of movement of the shank in each direction. A primary stop is provided by contact of a pin extending laterally through the shank with edge portions of the crown side, between which the shank is mounted. A secondary stop, operable upon failure of the primary stop, is provided by contact of the end of the shank adjacent the pin with inner surfaces of the crown heads. A tertiary stop, operable upon failure of the secondary stop, is provided by mutual contact of edge portions of the shank and crown heads.
Abstract:
A simple, inexpensive device and method are disclosed for measuring the effectiveness of a photoresist composition in controlling reflective notching. The device utilized in practicing the method is a metalized silicon wafer having a U-shaped image thereon. This wafer may be coated with a photoresist, exposed through a grating pattern and developed, whereby the degree of notching of the photoresist lines may be readily observed.
Abstract:
An offset printing press is provided with a novel dual form planetary inker having improved printing characteristics. In use, a plate cylinder rotates to initially contact an ink/water form roller and subsequently contact a second form roller which is devoted exclusively to ink. The ink form roller is operable to insure that voids caused by lint, dust and other debris in the ink train are covered by the second form roller; additionally, the ink form roller provides a second working nip through which a second layer of ink is averaged with the previously deposited ink layer, such that ghosting is substantially eliminated. Both of the form rollers as well as numerous distributor rollers are rotatably carried by a shiftable frame which is pivotally interconnected with a support that carries the plate cylinder. The frame is shiftable from a first position wherein the forms are in rolling engagement with the plate cylinder and a second position wherein both of the forms are spaced from the plate cylinder; however, as the frame is lowered toward its first or working position, the ink/water form is disposed to contact the plate cylinder before the ink form, such that the plate is effectively dampened before ink is applied thereto. In particularly preferred forms, the planetary inker engages the plate cylinder on only two lines of contact, such that any one of a number of various plate cylinder diameters may be utilized.
Abstract:
A visual plot of a single valued function is rotated orthogonally and theniewed by a TV camera. The camera output is recorded on a video recorder and then played back to a digitizer. The digitizer horizontally scans the rotated plot and detects the time interval for each horizontal scan to intersect a respective point on the rotated plot. The intervals correspond to the amplitude of different points along the plot. The information derived may be stored for subsequent data processing.
Abstract:
An apparatus is provided to create a focal zone for mindfulness meditation. The apparatus includes a first member extending between a first edge and a second edge, the first member having a translucent portion, a first elongated side member attached adjacent the first edge of the first member, and a second elongated side member attached adjacent the second edge of the first member, the first and second elongated members being generally parallel to another and lying in a single horizontal plane.
Abstract:
A method of treating hemorrhoids is disclosed. The method includes locally administering a composition including an effective amount of one or more macrocyclic lactone compounds, including avermectin compounds, milbemycin compounds, or mixture thereof and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier to the affected anorectal region of an individual suffering from hemorrhoid.
Abstract:
A method of treating herpes simplex virus infection or varicella zoster virus infection is disclosed. The method includes topically applying a composition containing an effective amount of one or more macrocyclic lactone compounds, including avermectin compounds or milbemycin compounds and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier to the affected area of an individual suffering from herpes simplex virus infection or varicella zoster virus infection.
Abstract:
A method of treating otitis externa is disclosed. The method includes topically applying an otic composition containing an effective amount of one or more macrocyclic lactone compounds, including avermectin compounds or milbemycin compounds and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier into the external auditory canal and the auricle of an affected ear of an individual suffering from otitis externa.
Abstract:
A method of treating a superficial or partial thickness burn caused by heat, or by UV or laser radiation is disclosed. The method includes topically applying a topical composition containing an avermectin compound to an affected area immediately after a burn occurs. The method further includes cooling the affected area with ice or water prior to application of the topical composition. Additionally, the method includes topically applying a second topical composition containing fluocinonide and salicylic acid on the affected area to further enhance anti-inflammatory effect of the avermectin compound on the damaged skin.
