    摘要: A color display device (10) includes: a plurality of gas discharge tubes disposed side by side, the gas discharge tubes having phosphor layers (4R, 4G, 4B) of different materials for respective colors disposed therein and containing discharge gas therein, the gas discharge tubes each having a plurality of light-emitting points disposed along the length thereof; a plurality of display electrodes disposed on display-side surfaces of the gas discharge tubes; and a plurality of signal electrodes (3) disposed on the rear sides of the respective gas discharge tubes. The discharge gas in each of the plurality of gas discharge tubes comprises a mixture of a plurality of different gases. The gas discharge tubes including respective different materials for the phosphor layers have respective different compositions of the plurality of different gases. Each composition of the plurality of different gases has such respective partial pressure ratios as to raise a color temperature.

The plurality of signal electrodes are divided into a plurality of groups (B1, B2, . . . , Ba). Each group includes a predetermined number of signal electrodes. The distance between adjacent ones of the signal electrodes in each group has a first distance. The distance between adjacent ones of said signal electrodes in each group is substantially equal to a first distance (PT). The distance between the signal electrode at an end of each group of the signal electrodes and the signal electrode at the adjacent end of the adjacent group is substantially equal to a second distance (PG) that is larger than the first distance.

The plasma tube array displays an image by causing discharge inside the arc tubes so that the phosphor layers inside the arc tubes are allowed to emit light. A gradient of the luminance value in the longitudinal direction of one plasma tube is calculated on the basis of the obtained luminance value at a plurality of positions in the longitudinal direction of at least one plasma tube. A difference of the luminance value of each plasma tube obtained at the same relative position. On the basis of the gradient of the luminance value and the difference of the luminance value of each plasma tube at the same relative position, a correction luminance value in each discharge cell in the longitudinal direction of each of the plurality of plasma tubes is calculated.

    摘要: A method for driving an AC type surface-discharge display device which has cells arranged in a matrix. Each of the cells has at least three electrodes including a pair of main electrodes on every line of the matrix and an address electrode on every column of the matrix. The method includes providing an address preparation period applying a charge producing pulse and applying a charge adjusting pulse. The charge adjusting pulse has a waveform monotonously falling from a reference potential and a negative polarity and is applied to the second main electrode used as a scan electrode and generates feeble electric discharges between the first and second main electrodes. The feeble electric discharges are accompanied by a decrease of the wall voltage formed by the charge producing pulse.

    摘要: A light emitting string is produced by forming a fluorescent layer on a fluorescent layer support member having an opening and configured such as to protect the fluorescent layer, and inserting the fluorescent layer support member into a minute tube. Therefore, when the fluorescent layer support member is inserted into the minute tube, the fluorescent layer is prevented from contacting the interior wall of the minute tube. This prevents the chipping, the separation and the cracking of the fluorescent layer, thereby improving the yield in production of plasma light emitting strings.
