    摘要： A mass data storage device (10) and method for operating it are disclosed. The mass data storage device has a rotating disk memory (14) which has a number of sectors for containing data. A FIFO memory (30) has three memory sections (40-42), each for containing an entire sector of data associated with respective sectors of the rotating disk memory. An ECC unit (34) has random access to any data contained in the FIFO memory (30). The ECC unit (34) is operated to perform error correction on data while the data is contained in the FIFO memory (34). A FIFO memory controller (32) controls locations at which data is written into and read from the FIFO memory (30), and locations at which data correction is performed by the ECC unit (34), so that as data is written into a first portion of the memory containing a sector currently being written, the ECC unit concurrently accesses a second portion of the memory containing a sector previously written to correct data therein, and data that has already been corrected by the ECC unit in a third portion of the memory is concurrently being read from the memory.

    摘要： Combination quilted patterns of which at least one component pattern is continuous are sewn on a multi-layered web of material with the sewing heads on one bridge as the material is advanced longitudinally. The bridge might or might not also move longitudinally. Simultaneously, different patterns, either continuous or discontinuous, are sewn with another independently moveable bridge. The continuous patterns extend substantially the lengths of quilted panels on a web, and may extend without thread cuts or tacks along the web across the lengths of more than one panel. One pattern can be changed while the other pattern continues along the web. New patterns, intermediate quilted products and methods for quilting them are provided.

    摘要： A network interface device (NID) for a fiber optic communications network is provided for housing optical, electrical and/or coaxial connections and active and/or passive components. The NID includes a base and a movable panel defining a connections area and a components area. In one embodiment, a first base defines a first compartment for housing the panel and a second base defining a second compartment for storing drop cable slack, the first base being movably attached to the second base to provide access to the drop cable slack without disturbing the connections. In another embodiment, the panel defines a first compartment for optical and electrical connections and a second compartment for active and passive components, the second compartment being accessible to only the service provider. In another embodiment, the panel is removable and interchangeable to permit the service provider to upgrade the services or to expand services provided to a subscriber.
