Abstract: A hinge assembly includes a main member having a main cam member and a bore extending generally along an axis of rotation. A pivot member, fixed to an end of a shaft extending through the bore, includes a pivot cam member and is rotatable with respect to the main member. At least one torque element is rotatably engaged with the shaft and is substantially rotationally fixed with respect to the main member. The at least one torque element imparts a first frictional resistance to the shaft with rotation of the shaft in a first direction and a second frictional resistance to the shaft with rotation of the shaft in a second direction. The first frictional resistance is greater than the second frictional resistance. Interaction of the main cam member with the pivot cam member assists in maintaining the hinge assembly in at least first and second positions.

Abstract: An excavating apparatus having a prime mover with a longitudinal centerline and a main frame with an engine, a ground drive system and an excavation boom operatively attached thereto wherein the excavation boom has a first end and a second end. The first end of the boom is operatively pivotally attached to the main frame along a main frame pivot axis. The main frame pivot axis is transverse to the longitudinal centerline of the prime mover. A head shaft operatively rotatably attached to the second end of said boom and is operatively pivotally attached to the second end of said boom Also, the excavation drum is mounted onto the head shaft in a manner that the excavation drum cooperates with the excavation chain and a fixed cutter pattern of the excavation chain to stay in consistent alignment with the fixed cutter pattern of the excavation drum.

Abstract: An excavating apparatus having a prime mover with a longitudinal centerline and a main frame with an engine, a ground drive system and an excavation boom operatively attached thereto wherein the excavation boom has a sub-frame with a first end and a second end. The first end of the sub-frame is operatively pivotally attached to the main frame along a main frame pivot axis. The main frame pivot axis is transverse to the longitudinal centerline of said prime mover. A head shaft operatively rotatably attached to the second end of said sub-frame along a head shaft axis and the head shaft axis is transverse to the longitudinal centerline of the prime mover. An excavating drum is operatively attached to the head shaft for rotation about said head shaft axis. The head shaft is operatively pivotally attached to the second end of said sub-frame along an axis which is fixed with or parallel to a line which is fixed with respect to said main frame pivot axis and which is substantially perpendicular to said main frame pivot axis whereby the position of the head shaft axis can be adjusted with respect to the position of the main frame pivot axis from a position parallel to said main frame pivot axis to positions not parallel to said main frame pivot axis. Also, the excavation drum is mounted onto the head shaft in a manner that the excavation drum cooperates with the excavation chain and a fixed cutter pattern of the excavation chain to stay in consistent alignment with the fixed cutter pattern of the excavation drum.

Abstract: A test fixture to test for possible leakage past a seal between adjacent portions of two test panels. The test panels are supported on a housing in edge-to-edge relation across the open front of a chamber in a housing. The panels are moved toward the open front of the chamber so that the panels seal against the open front. The housing is supported in a cabinet. Liquid is discharged into the cabinet and directed against the seal. The housing has a rear wall which is visible through the cabinet and is constructed to enable viewing into the chamber to see whether the seal has leaked.

Abstract: A system and process for controlling an excavation implement during excavation between an above-ground position and a below-ground position. The excavation implement is actuated by use of the engine operating at a target output level. A computer controls the rate at which the excavation implement is moved in a generally vertical direction while excavating earth between the above-ground and below-ground positions. A sensor senses a performance parameter indicative of either engine performance or excavation implement performance as the excavation implement progresses through the earth. The computer modifies actuation of the excavation implement in response to the sensed performance parameter to maintain the engine at the target output level when the engine is subject to variations in loading as the excavation implement moves between the above-ground and below-ground positions.
