    摘要: A method and apparatus for mitigating the impact of lost data due to cell reselection for mobile stations operating in packet data transfer mode is described. A mobile station may perform cell reselection 2 to 4 times per minute when located in an urban area, even if the mobile station remains stationary. A mobile station moving through a communications network (100) may cross over various cell and routing area boundaries. Further, a mobile station operating in push-to-talk mode may lose up to 8 seconds of data when reselecting a cell in a new routing area. A serving cell transmits an information element (301, 303, 305) in which the mobile station is informed whether cells in its neighbor list are in the same routing area as its serving cell. If the radio link to the serving cell is acceptable then the mobile station avoids reselection to cells outside its serving cell routing area.

    摘要: A bi-directional wire-line to local area network interface, used between a remote host on a local area network (LAN), and a wire-line carrier system. A LAN media access control and physical interface converts outgoing LAN data from a LAN to an outgoing-data packet with a machine readable format. A LAN transmission control protocol and internet protocol stack identifies a protocol type of the outgoing-data packet from the LAN-MAC and physical interface. When the outgoing-data packet does not have a modem control command, a protocol converter correlates the outgoing-data packet to a channel number and depacketizes the outgoing-data packet into outgoing-binary data. Using the channel number, a connection controller and signal transform polls the outgoing-binary data and transforms the outgoing-binary data to a digitized representation of an analog signal having pulse code modulation (PCM). A wire-line carrier interface uses the channel number for multiplexing the digitized representation of the analog signal with frame bits, and also multiplexes any alarm conditions and signalling bits, as an outgoing-wire-line carrier signal. The wire-line carrier interface sends the outgoing-wire-line carrier signal over the wire-line carrier system.

    摘要: A device and method are provided for concurrently using a plurality of radio access technologies (RATs) to support a wireless-enabled communications session. A set of data is processed at a client node to identify a subset of priority data. The set of data and the subset of priority data are respectively provided to a first and second protocol stack, which correspond to a first and second RAT. The first and second protocol stacks are then used to control the transmission of a first and second set of transmitted data, which in turn respectively comprise the set of data and the subset of priority data. The first and second sets of transmitted data are received by an access node, which uses corresponding first and second protocol stacks to control their reception. The first and second sets of transmitted data are then processed to generate a set of received data.

Multiple successive time slots are allocable upon which to communicate data to a receiving communication station.     摘要: A mobile communication device has a wireless transceiver and one or more processors for communicating data in a wireless communication system. The one or more processors are operative to receive a plurality of data packets of varying payload size in a queue; associate one or more of the data packets from the queue into a group, such that a total size of the group is at or near a maximum transmissible unit (MTU) size of a data frame; cause the one or more data packets associated into the group to be formatted into the data frame for data transmission via the wireless transceiver; and repeat, for a plurality of data frames, the associating and formatting, for communicating the data via the wireless transceiver in the wireless communication system. By associating the data packets into groups having the MTU size, data throughput of the data transmission is increased. Preferably, the one or more processors are further operative to rearrange an ordered sequence of the data packets from the queue to better achieve the MTU size for each data frame.

    摘要: Antenna apparatus, and an associated methodology, for a multi-frequency-band-capable radio device, such as a quad-band mobile station. The antenna apparatus is formed from a three-dimensional rectilinear non-conductive dielectric antenna substrate, such as cube. An elongated radiation element is disposed over multiple surfaces of the antenna substrate. A T-shaped impedance matching element located at the end of the radiation element permits the antenna input impedance to be matched to a communications device. The length of the radiation element is selected to be substantially equal to a quarter wavelength of the lowest frequency band at which the antenna operates.
