A collapsible communication connector that is movable between a compact collapsed configuration and an expanded operational configuration. The collapsible communication connector has an attachment assembly, which is movably coupled to an electrical contact panel. The attachment assembly is expanded outwardly from the electrical contact panel to facilitate mechanical coupling of the collapsible communication connector with a counterpart receptacle

A computer docking station has a disk drive module incorporated therein which is capable of operatively receiving a disk drive therein. The disk drive module is also capable of being operatively installed within a desktop computer or other enclosure having a half-height bay therein. Security features of the docking station include preventing access by unauthorized persons to the disk drive, and preventing ejection of the disk drive from the disk drive module. Additionally, multiple disk drive modules may be cooperatively linked in the docking station so that the security features relating to each of the disk drive modules may be simultaneously actuated.
摘要:
A notebook computer has a base housing with an exterior wall area through which an insertion opening extends into an internal bay area adapted to interchangeably receive a first modular device, such as a drive unit, having a cross-sectional area substantially equal to that of the insertion opening, or a second modular device, such as a battery, having a cross-sectional area substantially smaller than that of the insertion opening. A spring-loaded door member blocks a portion of the insertion opening, leaving an unblocked portion thereof having a cross-sectional area substantially equal to that of the smaller module. Thus, when the smaller module is inserted into the bay the door remains in place to cover the portion of the insertion opening unoccupied by the inserted smaller second module. If the larger first module is inserted into the bay instead of the smaller second module, the first module pivots the spring-loaded door member inwardly into the interior of the base housing. Upon subsequent removal of the first module, the door member is spring-driven back to its original position in which it blocks only a portion of the bay's insertion opening. The door thus permits the bay to accommodate either module and automatically blocks off the unoccupied portion of the insertion opening when the smaller module is being utilized.

A computer docking station is provided which, in a disclosed embodiment thereof, includes multiple security features. The security features are operable to prevent access to interior portions of the docking station, prevent access to a card bay of the docking station, prevent ejection of a disk drive from a disk drive module of the docking station, and prevent operation of the disk drive module. Operation of the security features may be simultaneously and conveniently initiated by rotating a keyed lock mechanism to thereby rotate a cam mounted thereto.

A specially designed stand structure is used to vertically support a docking station housing, and an associated portable computer removably coupled thereto, to substantially reduce the vertical footprint of the overall docking station system. The stand structure includes a base portion having a recessed area for receiving and supporting a section of the docking station housing, and a pivotally mounted vertical holding wall structure with a transverse lower receiving platform. The vertical holding wall structure is spaced apart from and faces a vertical guide surface of the docking station housing, with the platform extending toward the guide surface. When the vertically oriented portable computer is placed on the platform the weight of the computer thereon pivots the vertical wall structure toward the guide surface, and a horizontally adjustable section of the vertical wall structure engages the facing vertical side of the computer and presses the opposite vertical side thereof against the guide surface to thereby horizontally align the computer docking connector with the mating connector on the docking station housing as the computer is pushed toward the docking station connector. The platform is spring-supported in a manner permitting vertical computer/docking station connector misalignments to be compensated for, and to relieve vertical stress on the mated computer and docking station connectors.
