Abstract: Methods and systems for determining periods of excessive noise for smart speaker voice commands. An electronic timeline of volume levels of currently playing content is made available to a smart speaker. From this timeline, periods of high content volume are determined, and the smart speaker alerts users during periods of high volume, requesting that they wait until the high-volume period has passed before issuing voice commands. In this manner, the smart speaker helps prevent voice commands that may not be detected, or may be detected inaccurately, due to the noise of the content currently being played.

Abstract: Systems and methods are described herein for providing content during reduced streaming quality. Data streaming is susceptible to degradation in quality that adversely affects the delivery of content. For example, sufficient reduction in streaming quality can cause video and audio portions of a data stream to become unsynchronized. In place of displaying a buffering notification, the system displays pre-curated sets of video frames that are determined suitable to replace a respective video frame affected by the sufficiently reduced streaming quality.

Abstract: Systems and methods are described for aggressive advertisement of media content. The system, using a prominent attribute of a first media asset, selects, from a plurality of candidate media assets for partial exposure to the user, a second media asset that features the prominent attribute. In response to determining the end to the first scene, the system determines a second attribute of the first scene and plays back a first segment of the second media asset featuring the prominent attribute and the second attribute, and resumes playback of the first media asset. During the resumed playback of the first media asset, the system detects a third attribute of a second scene. In response to determining an end of the second scene, the system plays back a second segment of the second media asset featuring the prominent attribute and the third attribute before resuming playback of the first media asset.

Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed herein for varied audio segment compression for accelerated playback of media assets. A priority weight for each of the various audio segments is then determined. Each audio segment for use during accelerated playback is based on the priority weight of that audio segment, the received playback time period, and a duration of that audio segment. A sum of the modified time for each audio segment equals the received playback time period. An accelerated playback speed for each audio segment is determined based on the modified time for that audio segment and the duration of that audio segment. The technique generates for playback the video segment based on a determined video playback speed and the audio segments based on the accelerated playback speed for each audio segment.

Abstract: A media guidance application may determine a length of a portion of a media asset that the user has missed and compare the length with a threshold length. If the length is greater than the threshold length, the media guidance application may generate a first summary of the missed portion of the media asset based on segments of the missed portion of the media asset that are of a first importance. If the length is not greater than the threshold length, the media guidance application may generate a second summary of the missed portion of the media asset based on segments of the missed portion of the media asset that are of the first importance and the second importance. The media guidance application may generate for display the summary.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided herein for providing supplemental Augmented Reality (AR) content. Media content is provided to a user device located within a viewing area. A determination is made that a supplemental three dimensional (3D) AR content related to the media content is available. 3D characteristics of the supplemental AR content are determined. Such characteristics include a viewing angle and body position of an actor from the supplemental AR content. 3D characteristics of the viewing area are determined. Such characteristics include shape and position of the furniture within the viewing area and a position of a user within the viewing area. A position is determined within the viewing area by comparing the 3D characteristics of the supplemental AR content and the 3D characteristics of the viewing area. The supplemental AR content is then provided for display at the determined position.
