摘要: A method and apparatus for electing broadcast relay nodes (520B, H, M) in an ad hoc network (500). Each node (520A-520O) generates an attribute message including associated parameters. Each node (520A-520O) generates a weighted value (WV) based on the parameters. The WV can be included in the attribute message for that node, can provide a metric for ranking that node to be nominated to be a broadcast relay node, can alternatively provide a probability measure for that node to probabilistically elect itself as a broadcast relay node. The broadcast manager node (520C) receives the attribute messages and elects at least one nominated node as a broadcast relay node (520B, H, M) based on the attribute messages. Each node (520A-520O) can also initiate election of an intermediate broadcast relay node if that node fails to receive a test message within a predetermined time.

摘要: A method for allocating capacity in a communication network has steps of making a base offer to a remote device for allocation of network capacity in the communication network (210), receiving an acceptance of the base offer (220), determining utilization of capacity in the communication network (230), and making an extended offer to the remote device based on the determined utilization of capacity in the communication network (270). The extended offer can include options for increased quality of delivery, such as decreased latency of delivery, increased speed of delivery, or increased accuracy of delivery. The extended offer can include alternate features or formats for the delivery. The communication network capacity allocation method provides a way to increase service provider revenue by allocating, and charging for, otherwise unused network capacity. The method also gives customers opportunities to take advantage of excess network capacity—sometimes at a very good price.

摘要: A device (102) external to a wireless communication system infrastructure (104), defines (402) a dispatch group having a dispatch group identifier and including a plurality of wireless units (300). The device receives (404) a call for the dispatch group, the call including a message. The device establishes (408), through the wireless communication system infrastructure, a group connection to the plurality of wireless units in response to receiving the call; and delivers (410) the message and the dispatch group identifier to the plurality of wireless units through the group connection.

摘要: A method in an electronic device for transferring information to another electronic device is disclosed. Data that is selected (202) to be transferred from a first device (102) to a second device (108) is associated (204) with a uniquely identifiable set of information 106. The uniquely identifiable set of information is transferred (206) to a content provider (110). The uniquely identifiable set of information is also transferred (208) to the second device. The second device transmits the uniquely identifiable set of information to a data source. The data source matches the data to the uniquely identifiable set of information and then transfers the data to the second device.

摘要: A wireless communication device (104) and method for presenting customized media streams is described. The device comprises a transceiver (202), a processor (204) and an output device (208). The transceiver (202) receives a first media content (904) and a first media data (906) associated with the first media content from a remote server (102). The processor (204) retrieves a second media content (908) from a local memory (206) of the client device (104). The output device (208) provides a combined media (910) including the first media content (904) and at least a portion of the second media content (908) inserted at the one or more insertion points of the first media content.

摘要: A wireless mobile terminal (10) and method for utilizing digital broadcast content records (204) selected digital broadcast content as received, for example, by a digital broadcast receiver (16) and provides editing of the selected digital broadcast content based on digital rights management data to generate customized clips of information. The selected digital broadcast content is edited (206) to produce mobile terminal edited digital broadcast content that may be, for example, distributed (208) by the mobile terminal to a plurality of peer devices. A broadcast content editor (24) allows for the editing of clips of content wherein the edited clips are then stored in memory as recorded clips for distribution by the mobile terminal. In another embodiment, a network element is remotely controlled by the mobile terminal to effect editing through the mobile terminal at the network element.

摘要: A method of making a geographic location determination via a cellular telephone in signal communication with a base station. The mobile station first attempts to detect a position location signal. Upon determining that the position location signal is insufficient to use in a position location calculation, the mobile station deactivates at least a portion of a receiver. The mobile station receives a cellular communication signal and measures a signal quality of the cellular communication signal. Responsive to the signal quality improving by a predetermined amount, the mobile station reactivates the receiver portion and re-attempts to detect the position location signal.
