    摘要: A plurality of serially addressable devices connected to transmit data to or from a central controller via a two-wire polling loop has a global poll capability. The transmissions of data are via a tri-level line signal to provide both power and data transmission on a two-wire line. Global polling is initiated by a preamble recognized by each device in the loop. The preamble is followed by a single bit sequence to allow the devices to signal the central controller that one or more devices will respond to the global poll. If one or more devices will respond to the global poll, a series of bit sequences is generated by the central controller equal to the number of bits that will be transmitted by the serially addressable device to transmit its address and status. In order that only a single device respond to a global poll, if two or more devices are in contention for control of the loop to transmit their message to the central controller, each device measures the voltage on the loop and drops out of contention if it measures a digital zero while it is trying to transmit a digital one in the address field.

    摘要: A closure is provided for use in a squeeze-type container that defines a discharge opening communicating with the container interior in which the fluid product is contained. The closure includes a body for being mounted to the container over the container opening. An insert member is mounted in the body. In one embodiment, the insert member defines a dispensing orifice through which the container contents can be dispensed, and the closure body defines a vent aperture adjacent the insert member for cooperating with the insert member to define a vent passage between the container opening and the ambient atmosphere. A resilient sealing lip is defined by the insert member for sealingly engaging the interior surface of the closure body around the vent aperture in a closed position. The sealing lip is shifted out of sealing engagement to an open position when the ambient atmospheric pressure exceeds the pressure within the container, and this permits equalization of the container pressure the ambient atmospheric pressure. A lid is provided for being moved to a closed position on the closure body, and the lid has a plug member for being sealingly received in the dispensing orifice of the insert member to occlude the dispensing orifice. In another embodiment, the dispensing orifice and vent aperture are separately defined within, and by, the closure body.

    摘要: A smoke and fire detection system wherein a central controller transmits data to remote transponders on a voltage supply line by pulse code modulation (PCM) of the supply voltage, and the transponders communicate with the controller by pulse width modulated (PWM) current pulses over the voltage supply line. A transmitter in the controller supplies a nominal operating voltage to the transponders and transmits a data word comprising a plurality of data bits to the transponders over the line. The transmitter generates each data bit by switching the voltage supplied to the line from the nominal operating voltage to a first voltage corresponding to a first logical level or a second voltage corresponding to a second logical level. A decoder in each transponder derives the transmitted data word. The decoder detects each data bit by detecting the transition from the nominal voltage to the first or second voltage, and the decoder determines the logical level of each bit by measuring the transmitted voltage level immediately after detecting the transition. The transponder returns data to the controller in the form of data signals, each data signal having a duration based on the data to be returned. With such arrangement, the transponders do not require a clock or other timing circuitry to communicate with the controller. Also, the controller may vary the data rate or bit duration without interfering with the operation of the transponders.
