Abstract:
A cosmetic eyeliner composition in the form of a liquid is provided which is especially adapted for use in conjunction with a wick-type nib pen which delivers eyeliner through a capillary action, which eyeliner composition includes a pigment intermediate formed of FDA approved inorganic eye product pigments having an average particle size of about 5 microns or less, a water-soluble organic polymer film-former, such as polyvinyl pyrrolidone, and optionally one or more plasticizers, and a carrier for the pigment intermediate, which carrier includes water, plasticizer, preservative, and an alcohol and optionally a moisturizer and/or humectant. The eyeliner composition of the invention will pass through the wick of a wick-type nib pen by capillary action without clogging the wick.
Abstract:
A plurality of samples of a cosmetic product, such as nail enamel, lipstick, powder or cream makeup, fragrance, and the like, each comprising a quantity suitable for one sample dose, are provided on a sheet or continuous strip of material. The strip is provided with perforations between adjacent dose units to permit a prospective customer to tear off one or several samples at a time from the strip. The sheet or strip can be provided on a reel for convenient and compact disposition at the point of purchase.
Abstract:
A hair treatment system and appliance which are precisely and accurately controlled by a microprocessor in which data stored in memory is utilized to control different types of hair treatment programs for different types of hair. The system is utilized in association with a head bonnet adapted to be placed about the hair being treated and having a heater therein for heating the hair during the treatment program. A control panel allows a selection and entry to be made on the type and porosity of the hair to be treated, from eleven different possible combinations thereof indicated on the panel. A memory has stored therein a treatment time and temperature for each of the possible combinations, and a processing circuit is responsive to the particular entry to retrieve the proper treatment time and temperature from memory. A separate temperature sensor probe is utilized to detect the temperature produced by the heater at the hair during its treatment. The processing circuit monitors the temperature sensor, and is responsive to its output to control the heater, maintaining it substantially at the temperature retrieved from memory. The processing circuit further monitors the treatment time, and turns off power to the heater after the correct treatment time has elapsed.
Abstract:
A battery-operated device and method for determining the skin type of a living subject is disclosed in which an oil sample carried by a probe is subjected to the impingement of an essentially monochromatic light source of predetermined wavelength. The amount of light passing through the oil sample is detected and an output current proportional thereto is produced. This output current is amplified and drives a meter which displays the skin type of the subject. Calibration means and a method for calibrating the meter utilizing an oil-free probe are disclosed, as well as a means for adjusting the bandwidth of the output of the amplifier to coincide with the meter.
