A candleholder for a fuel element, such as a votive candle, includes a melting plate carried by a base portion. The melting plate is generally dish-shaped and disposed within a generally complementarily shaped recess in a top end of the base portion. An alignment mechanism including an inner peripheral step protruding into the recess and a complementary ledge in a bottom surface of the melting plate helps ensure that the melting plate is disposed at a predetermined position in the recess. The ledge rests on the peripheral step with an adhesive disposed therebetween when the melting plate is in the predetermined position. A ring protrusion from the base portion is disposed under a cavity defined under a capillary lobe in the melting plate. The ring protrusion helps retain a magnet in a predetermined location in the cavity and may also serve as part of the alignment mechanism. The magnet may be used to help retain a ferro-magnetic wick holder of the votive candle on the capillary lobe.

The chafing dish fuel canister is preferably of a transparent plastic material and upon being overturned maintains the fuel product therein in a safe condition without spillage.

The sheet reduces the risk of fire hazards that arise during the later stages of candle burning, which are characterized by a thin candle floor and a pool of liquid fuel surrounding the wick support. The wick support is made longer and sealingly adhered to the sheet to further reduce the risk of fire hazards. The structural combination of the wick support, the sealant, and the sheet facilitates even burning during the life of the candle and self-extinguishment of the flame at the end stage of burning.

A fusible link (28), which is affixed to a tank guide (12) via a support (30), is connected to an arm (74). The arm (74) is in turn connected to a lever (78) in a hinged fashion. The lever (78) is attached to a support (82) in a hinged fashion. A face (80) is present on the lever (78) at the end of the lever (78) distal to the end connected to arm (74). The face (80) is proximate to an automatic wick extinguishing unit (42). Should the temperature of fusible link (28) exceed a predetermined level, it will open irreversibly, allowing arm (74) to move downward, which in turn causes lever (78) to rotate about support (82), forcing face (80) upward, which actuates the automatic wick extinguishing unit (42).

A chafing dish fuel canister is provided having a snuffing device attached thereto. The chafing dish canister has inserted through the lid an inner sleeve which is securely fitted thereon. The wick extends upwards through the inner sleeve from the canister containing the combustible fuel. Over the top of the inner sleeve is place a reservoir sleeve which is press fitted thereon. Reservoir sleeve has an open outwardly extending reservoir formed at the upper portion thereof for retaining excess fuel not burned during use of the chafing dish fuel canister. Surrounding the reservoir sleeve is a snuffing bowl which is movable along the reservoir sleeve. When the canister is overturned, the reservoir bowl snuffs out the flame. The reservoir sleeve has a annular retention recess for preventing the bowl from snuffing the flame unless the dish is actually overturned. Also, the collection reservoir surrounding the wick allows excess fuel to either be burned or drain back into the canister. Finally, the upper portion of the snuffing bowl extends vertically upwards to allow for easy travel along the reservoir sleeve.

A fire-extinguishing device for a wick ignition type oil burner adapted to discharge combustion gas to a room is disclosed which is capable of effectively removing bad odor generating materials contained in combustion gas produced during the fire-extinguishing operation to prevent the discharge of bad odor to a room. The fire-extinguishing device includes an actuation mechanism actuated with a wick actuating mechanism of an oil burner at the fire-extinguishing operation to lift a combustion cylinder construction of the oil burner and a combustion gas clarification mechanism which carries a catalyst thereon and is adapted to sealedly fit an upper portion of the lifted combustion cylinder construction therein so that combustion gas produced during the fire-extinguishing operation may be passed through the catalyst to remove, from the combustion gas, bad odor generating materials contained therein.
