Abstract:
The process that is the object of the invention is a process for preparation of biomass mixed with a heavy hydrocarbon fraction for the purpose of supplying a gasification unit with said feedstock. The process according to the invention comprises a first mixing stage followed by a grinding stage and makes it possible to deliver a suspension of biomass particles that are dispersed in the heavy hydrocarbon fraction that is less than 500 microns in size.
Abstract:
A method of decreasing the concentration of nitrogen oxides in flue gases emitted into the atmosphere from combustion systems that burn carbonaceous materials which involves pretreating carbonaceous material particles with vanadium, titanium and ammonia. In the case of coal particles, vanadium, titanium dioxide and ammonium acetate are used to coat the coal particles. The vanadium and titanium dioxide are applied as substantially uniform coatings on the surfaces of the coal particles by incorporating the vanadium and titanium dioxide in emulsions or suspensions.
Abstract:
In a method for reducing NOx in the flue gas a coal water slurry is injected into the furnace above the primary combustion zone into a region having a temperature from 1800.degree. F. to 2700.degree. F. The slurry is preferably injected through atomizers and through injectors that introduce a continuous stream. Lime, ammonia, urea and completion air can also be injected.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a method of supplying coal and sulphur absorbent to a combustor with combustion in a fluidized bed. The coal is crushed and sorted into a fine and a coarse fraction. The fine fraction is mixed with water, possibly with oil and/or emulsifier, into a paste which is pumped into the bed of the combustor via a number of first nozzles. The coarse coal fraction is supplied to the combustor pneumatically in dry state, directly or via at least one lock hopper systems and a number of other nozzles. The invention also relates to a power plant for application of the method.
Abstract:
A slurry of liquified gas such as carbon dioxide and finely pulverized coal particles is provided in a mixing chamber and discharged from the chamber into a pipeline for conveyance to a power plant. During discharge from the mixing chamber pressurized gas at a sufficiently high pressure is injected above the slurry mix to maintain adequate pressure during discharge and prevent cavitation at the inlet port of a pump employed in the pipeline. The slurry is depressurized at the downstream end of the pipeline by movement through a pressure reducer so that it is decompressed non-adiabatically and the coal and gas particles are separated. The gas remains at a low temperature and is passed in heat exchange relationship with cooling water from the power plant cooling tower to lower the temperature of same and consequently increase the efficiency of the power plant. In another embodiment the gas comprises carbon dioxide and a portion of the cool carbon dioxide is discharged directly into the basin of the cooling tower to reduce the water temperature and provide beneficial cooling water chemistry control.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus is provided for obtaining mixtures in predetermined proportions of a primary liquid and secondary liquid while the stagnation pressure and mass flow of the primary liquid are varying. The apparatus comprises a passive device having a passageway extending therethrough. A first section of the passageway for receiving the primary liquid has a decreasing area. A second section of the passageway for receiving the secondary liquid has an area substantially equal to the minimum area of the first section.
Abstract:
Gas-fluidized ground coal, and coal dust slurried with fuel oil, are supplied to a reverse flow cyclone combustor which provides the functions of combustion and particulate removal. Coal dust borne by the fluidizing gas is passed through a cyclone scrubber utilizing fuel oil, and the resulting slurry is introduced into the combustor adjacent the inner surface of the combustor wall. Only the finest coal dust is employed in the slurry, to minimize oil consumption. Separative performance of the combustor is enhanced by introducing combustion air centrally adjacent the combustor outlet and gas-borne ground coal directly onto the cyclone walls.
