摘要: A photoreceptor web drying unit of a liquid electrophotographic printer includes a plurality of heating sources, installed close to but not contacting a photoreceptor web, for generating heat used for drying and vaporizing liquid carrier, a manifold, encompassing the heating sources, for collecting gas carrier vaporized by the heating sources, a circulation line, forming a closed loop connected to the manifold, for forming a path for circulation of the gas carrier collected in the manifold, an inlet duct, installed at the manifold to be connected to the circulation line, through which the gas carrier vaporized by the heating sources can flow, and a blowing duct, installed at the manifold to be connected to the circulation line, through which air can flow into the manifold. Thus, since the drying unit is formed in a non-contact method with respect to the photoreceptor web, images are not inadvertently picked-up by the drying unit. Also, since the drying unit reduces image defects, the quality of the printed image is improved.

摘要: An apparatus is provided for drying a liquid image carried on a surface of a medium moving along a predetermined path from an upstream location towards a downstream location. The apparatus includes an air moving device, such as a blower, that moves air. A plenum has an intake that receives air and an outlet permitting the air to exit the plenum. A channel structure communicates with the outlet of the plenum and is disposed generally adjacent to a surface of the medium carrying the image. The channel structure includes an upstream channel portion and a downstream channel portion such that air exiting the outlet of the plenum is diverted to flow towards the upstream location in the upstream channel portion and towards the downstream location in the downstream channel portion. A heater is associated with the medium to heat at least a portion of the medium and thus the image. A method of drying a liquid image on a surface of a medium is also provided. The apparatus and method may arranged so that the direction of air is reversed where the air then moves along the channel structure by suction action rather than by being blown through the channel.

摘要: An operational sequence including a cleaning of a processing device shifting to the standby state in the process of shifting from a printing operation to a standby state of a liquid electro-photographic device of a tandem type is performed well. A processing device has a squeeze roller for performing removal of residual liquid developer from an image formed on a photoconductive belt 2 and for forming an image into a film and is removed in order that the squeeze roller 6 shifts from the state having a clearance from the photoconductive belt 2 to the state being pressed against the photoconductive belt 2 for performing a removal of the liquid developer remaining on the squeeze roller 6 to the photoconductive belt 2 in sequence when the image forming operation is finished after cleaning the liquid developer adhered on the squeeze roller 6, and the removal proceeds sequentially from a processing device on a downstream side of a traveling direction of the photoconductive belt 2. And the processing device is retracted in order that the squeeze roller 6 shifts from the state having a clearance from the photoconductive belt 2 to the state pressed against the photoconductive belt 2 after performing the removal of the liquid developer remaining on the squeeze roller 6 to the photoconductive belt 2 in sequence, and retraction proceeds sequentially from a processing device on a downstream side before the dirt of the liquid developer removed from the squeeze roller of the processing device on an upstream side to the photoconductive belt 2.

摘要: A drying unit coupling apparatus of a liquid electrophotographic printer in which the engagement of a driving gear installed at a main frame, and a driven gear installed at a cam shaft, are prevented from disengaging when an auxiliary frame supporting the cam shaft is coupled to the main frame. The driven gear is engaged with the driving gear when the auxiliary frame and the main frame are coupled. The apparatus includes a main frame where a driving roller supports a circulating photoreceptor medium, a driving gear installed at the main frame, an auxiliary frame which is slidably installed at the main frame, a cam shaft supported at the auxiliary frame, a drying unit, a driven gear installed at the cam shaft, a cam member installed at the cam shaft, and a position fixing mechanism which fixes the position of the cam shaft when the driving gear and the driven gear are engaged, preventing the driving gear and the driven gear from deviating from each other. The drying unit includes a drying roller for absorbing a liquid carrier remaining on the photoreceptor medium, a heating roller for heating the drying roller, and a separation plate and a contact plate, all installed in a drying unit frame. The cam member selectively pushes the separation plate or the contact plate so that the drying unit frame closely contacts or separates from the main frame.

摘要: A wet-type image forming apparatus which allows excess solvent to be effectively removed from the developed image is disclosed. A developing roller develops a latent image on the photoconductor member using the liquid developer composed of toner particles and a solvent. A squeezing roller squeezes excess solvent from a surface of a photoconductor member. A heater heats liquid developer existing on the photoconductor member to a temperature at which the solvent of the liquid developer is prone to vaporize. The heater is provided in one of the developing roller, the squeezing roller, and the liquid developer reservoir.

摘要: A developer cleaning method for a liquid electrophotographic printer is achieved by developing an electrostatic latent image by supplying developer supplied from an injection nozzle to a photoreceptor medium via a development roller, removing drip developer formed on the photoreceptor web between a squeegee roller and the development roller, removing developer remaining between the injection nozzle and the development roller, and reducing an electrical potential of the development roller after development so that toner particles included in the drip developer are transferred to the development roller due to a difference in electrical potential.

摘要: A method and apparatus for producing high quality toner images in an electrostatic printing machine. The method using the apparatus includes (a) (a) forming an initial developed toner image on a photoreceptor using a first toner image forming assembly including a charging device for uniformly charging the photoreceptor, and a development assembly, including charged toner solids having a single polarity, for image-wise applying a layer of the toner solids to the latent image to form an initial developed toner image; (b) refining the initial developed toner image using an air breakdown charging assembly, including a relatively large magnitude voltage biasing source and a nip forming roll coupled thereto, for image-wise recharging of the single polarity toner solids layer forming the initial developed toner image. The air breakdown charging assembly induces an air breakdown electrical discharge wherein free mobile ions are introduced into a vicinity of the initial developed toner image, and the latent image underlying the initial developed toner image cooperates with the large magnitude voltage biasing source to cause free mobile ions to flow to toner solids of the initial developed toner image in an image-wise manner, thereby image-wise recharging toner solids of the initial developed toner image such that image area toner solids then have a first polarity, and background toner solids then have a second and relatively opposite polarity; and (c) separating the image area toner solids from the background area toner solids, so as to refine the initial developed toner image, thereby resulting in a high resolution, high quality refined final toner image consisting of the image area toner solids having highly clean background areas.
