Abstract: A bass enhancement system can provide an enhanced bass effect for speakers, including relatively small speakers. The bass enhancement system can apply one or more bass enhancements to an input audio signal. For example, the bass enhancement system can exploit how the human ear processes overtones and harmonics of low-frequency sounds to create the perception that non-existent (or attenuated) low-frequency sounds are being emitted from a loudspeaker. The bass enhancement system can generate harmonics of at least some low-frequency fundamental frequencies in one embodiment. Playback of at least some harmonics of a low-frequency fundamental frequency can cause a listener to perceive the playback of the low-frequency fundamental frequency. Advantageously, in certain embodiments, the bass enhancement system can generate these harmonics without performing processing-intensive pitch-detection techniques or the like to identify the fundamental frequencies.

Abstract: Systems and methods for simultaneous binaural presentation of multiple audio streams are provided. An example method includes receiving a first audio stream and at least one second audio stream. The first audio stream is associated with a first direction and the at least one second audio stream is associated with at least one second direction. The at least one second direction is set at an angle with respect to the first direction. A first acoustic sound is generated such that it may be perceived as the first audio stream coming from the first direction. An at least one second acoustic sound is generated such that it may be perceived as the at least one second audio stream coming from the at least one second direction. The first acoustic sound and the at least one second acoustic sound are blended into a third acoustic sound to be presented to a listener.

Abstract: A method of non-causally shifting a channel includes estimating comparison values at an encoder. Each comparison value is indicative of an amount of temporal mismatch between a previously captured reference channel and a corresponding previously captured target channel. The method also includes smoothing the comparison values to generate smoothed comparison values based on historical comparison value data and a smoothing parameter. The method further includes estimating a tentative shift value based on the smoothed comparison values. The method also includes non-causally shifting a target channel by a non-causal shift value to generate an adjusted target channel that is temporally aligned with a reference channel. The non-causal shift value is based on the tentative shift value. The method further includes generating, based on reference channel and the adjusted target channel, at least one of a mid-band channel or a side-band channel.

Abstract: Audio objects are associated with positional metadata. A received downmix signal comprises downmix channels that are linear combinations of one or more audio objects and are associated with respective positional locators. In a first aspect, the downmix signal, the positional metadata and frequency-dependent object gains are received. An audio object is reconstructed by applying the object gain to an upmix of the downmix signal in accordance with coefficients based on the positional metadata and the positional locators. In a second aspect, audio objects have been encoded together with at least one bed channel positioned at a positional locator of a corresponding downmix channel. The decoding system receives the downmix signal and the positional metadata of the audio objects. A bed channel is reconstructed by suppressing the content representing audio objects from the corresponding downmix channel on the basis of the positional locator of the corresponding downmix channel.

Abstract: There are provided decoding and encoding methods for encoding and decoding of multichannel audio content for playback on a speaker configuration with N channels.
