    摘要: The binding medium employs a mixture of ethyl silicate, anhydrous solvent and organo-functional hydrophilic silicon compounds containing at least one carbon-fixed amino group. The binding medium is capable of absorbing humidity from the air to bring about hydrolysis. The binding medium is also capable of unlimited durability if stored in an air-free dry condition. A hydrophilic alcoholate of titanium may also be added to the mixture to improve hydrolysis and gelling. The binder is mixed with a refractory ceramic filler to form a ceramic shell composition.

    摘要: Methods of preparing Hybrid Silicate Binders are shown by admixing the following materials:1. a basic or acidic colloidal silica sol suspended in water or glycol ether;2. an organic silicate, such as ethyl silicate, hydrolyzed with water;3. a mineral acid of sufficient quantity to produce a final binder having a pH of 1 to 4; and4. the hybrid binder contains silica sol and organic silicates such that the ratio of weight contribution of SiO.sub.2 from organic compounds to weight contribution of SiO.sub.2 from colloidal silica sol is in the range between 0.09 to .9, in the final binder.That is, ##EQU1## The final binder preferably contains about 18%-21% SiO.sub.2. If basic silica sol is used it must be added to a mixture of the other ingredients.The preferred binder has a shelf-life exceeding nine months, it can be chemically polymerized or air-set and provides high binder strength and refractoriness.

    摘要: A process for binding particulate material such as sand in foundry operation wherein the binder consists of an aqueous alkali metal silicate. The particulate material and binder are mixed together with a catalytic agent consisting in combination of (a) diacetin and (b) triacetin and (c) ethylene glycol diacetate. This three-part catalytic agent, when applied under certain controlled conditions, has been found to lower initial indentation hardness of the bonded particulate material to be shaped and molded while providing for a longer ''''plastic'''' stage without increasing the desired set time which can be accurately predetermined.
